Vincent Enyeama Early Life

Vincent Enyeama was born to Mr and Mrs Phillip Enyeama in Urua Inyang, Ika LGA, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria; on the 29th of August 1982.

His mother madam Philip Enyeama as she was fondly called, kicked the bucket in 2015. Vincent Enyeama had to pull out of the super eagles squad which was to face Tanzania, to bury his late mom; in attendance was the distinguished Governor of Akwa Ibom state Mr Udom Emmanuel and his comrades.

Club Career

Vincent Enyeama’s professional career started in 1999 where he played for the indomitable Ibom Stars, making a total of 56 appearances for the team before moving to Enyimba football club where he spent three years, making a total of 100 appearances for the Nigeria Premier League side; scoring a total of 10 scoring ten(10) goals for the club as a goalkeeper, very impressive for a goalkeeper. He also won the CAF champions League with Enyimba.

After an impressive three year spell with NPL champions, he moved to Israel to play for Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv where he helped the team in his first season to qualify for the finals of Israel State Cup.

In that same season, Vincent Enyeama helped his new club to finish fourth in the Israel premier league of which they also got a ticket to play in the UEFA cup competition which was held in 2006.

In 2007, Bhei Yehuda’s rival team in the Israel league Hapoel Tel Aviv came calling for the signature of the shot stopper, Vincent Enyeama and they succeeded in sealing a deal.

Enyeama’s first season with Hapoel was very disappointing though he was able to rescue the club from relegating, helping them to pull through to the state cup final.

The following season, Enyeama became a key element in the success of the team through his goal scoring ability and amazing saves. That season he was named the club’s player of the year; though he couldn’t lead them to the league title.

He was later loaned back to Israel, this time Maccabi Tel Aviv where he made a total of twenty-seven appearances for the club, helping them to claim the championship title.

Vincent Enyeama later went back to Losc Lille in 2013 after is loan spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv ended, becoming the clubs first choice. Enyeama rewarded the clubs head coach for the confidence he had in him by keeping an impressive eleven clean sheets consecutively.

In 2017/2018 season, Vincent Enyeama had a fall out with the club management and his fellow team mates, causing him to fall down the pecking other as he didn’t make any appearance for the club. He was released by mutual consent by the club in 2018.

He has been a free agent since then. He made a total of 118 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

International Career

Vincent Enyeama’s first appearance for the super eagles came in 2002 in the match against Kenya. He was later included in the squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup as a back up for the then first choice shot stopper Ike Shorunmu.

Enyeama who was part of the squad that featured in the 2013 African cup of nations had to stand in as the deputy captain for Joseph Yobo Who had found a place in the bench. He lead the super eagles to victory, helping them to win the cup.
