King Karl XI of Sweden demanded that Jöns Månsson start producing guns for his military.

Bob Hume founded the company, formerly of Excelsior-Henderson and Harley-Davidson.
However, from 1972 onward, Hodaka was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kawasaki. In 1972, five years after purchasing Excelsior-Henderson, Kawasaki shut down production at their Lincoln, Nebraska plant and moved it to their main facility in Japan.

16. Hildebrand & Wolfmüller
Motorcycle brands that start with H. This German motorcycle brand was founded in 1894 by Franz Hildebrand and Karl Wolfmüller, who wanted to build bicycles.
Their first bike had a single-cylinder engine that produced 1.75 horsepower and could reach a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h).
However, in 1898, they had built 100 bikes, which they sold through dealerships in Germany and surrounding countries.
In 1902, they made an electric vehicle that weighed only 60 pounds (27 kg) thanks to its aluminum frame.
Also, it featured an early storage battery that weighed just 83 pounds (38 kg). The bikes were available until 1904 when production stopped due to poor sales; only about 100 were ever built during those two years.
