Tim Dakolo was born on the 20th of January 1981 in Accra, Ghana. Timi Dakolo roots can be traced to Bayelsa from his paternal side and Ghana from his maternal side.
Tim’s mother, Norah, died when he was a teen and he was raised by his grandmother Ateni Dakolo and his aunt Susan Larry in Port Harcourt.
Timi developed a close bond with his grandmother and aunt, disclosing they help mould him to the better man he is today.

Tim while growing up with his paternal family, his aunt Susan tutored him in the act of singing thus growing his passion for music.
Tim started performing by joining his church choir at age 12, a year before his mother sudden demise. In 2003, he together with some young lads put up a music group “Purple Love’’, he and his team performed at events and was a popular band at club circuit.
However, in 2005 the music band was disbanded because 90% of her members got admission into the university including Timi, changing the way they view life thus leading them to different paths in life.
Timi’s quest for reaching the top never died even as a freshman in college. In 2006 he auditioned for a reality show ‘West African Idol’ in Calabar, where he displayed amazing vocal skills which captivated the judges.
A few days before the selection of the Top 24 performances, Timi was struck with a sad news of his grandmother’s demise. Such emotional news was no stranger to him and he got emotional support from his friends and family.
During the competition it was revealed that Dakolo got the highest number of votes from fans, he actually put his soul and mind into each performance which resulted in high votes and a Sony BMG recording contract.
After emerging as the winner of 2007 Idol West Africa, he went for a New year church service with his friends where he became a victim of a militant attack at the Presidential Hotel in Port Hacourt, having survive a gunshot wound.
In 2009 Tim Dakolo released his debut single which was made up of three songs and in 2011, he released another song “There’s a Cry”. Timi is also one of Judges on The Voice Nigeria and has signed a record deal with Lone Records/Now Muzik.
