Tems was born on the 11th of June, 1995, as Temilade Openiyi, into a family of a Nigerian mum and British father, in Lagos, Nigeria. She is currently 25 years old. Her mom raised Temilade after her parents separated at the age of five.

She had her primary and secondary education in Lekki, Lagos. At school, she showed much interest in music and was noticed by her music teacher. She learned to play the piano and would also practice singing with her brother’s guitar accompaniment.
