Design and Display
The Tecno Camon 15 Air chose the Dot-In (fancy name for hole-in-screen) display over the Infinity U display on the Camon 12. The thin panel has a single flash, a downgrade from the dual-LED flash on its predecessor.
The right-hand side contains the volume control and power buttons. The left side holds the SIM and memory card tray. There is a bezel at the bottom to maintain structural integrity.
Going to the back of the phone, we have a vertical camera set up at the top left side with a quad flashlight and the Camon brand. The Fingerprint sensor is present, too, but placed a little bit closer to the top. The Tecno brand is at the bottom middle.
The phone’s base houses the 3.5mm audio jack, dedicated microphone, USB 2.0, and external speaker. It has a plastic build and a good gradient design.
The phone’s display is a 6.6-inch IPS LCD panel. It retains the Camon 12 display resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 20:8 aspect ratio. The screen-to-body ratio has not been determined, but it should be around 85%.
The Camon 15 Air will be available in three colors: Shoal Gold, Fascinating Purple, and Dark Jade.
Camera Specifications
The Camon series is Tecno’s camera series, and Camon 15 follows the old tradition of introducing Tecno’s best cameras.
The selfie camera features an 8MP sensor, the same as that found on the Tecno Camon 12 Air. Dual-LED flashes are available for clearer night shots and to assist with Face Recognition.
The main upgrade comes on the rear camera, which features a 48MP main shooter, 2MP 115° ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP camera for 2cm macro, Ultra Night Lens supported by DSP chip, and f/1.79 aperture. This is an improvement over the 16MP + 8MP + 2MP lens on the Tecno 12. The rear camera is assisted by a quad-LED flash.
Tecno phones are well known for software enhancements on their cameras, which sometimes look overkill.
Hardware Components and Memory
The Tecno Camon Air 15 is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.0GHz (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53). In the graphics processing department, there is the PowerVR GE8320 with speed clocked at 650MHz
The Tecno Camon 15 Air shares the memory features of the Camon 12 Air in this department. It has an LPDDR3 3GB of RAM with a Memory frequency of 933MHz. The onboard storage is 64GB, expandable up to 256GB.
Software and Battery Specifications
The Camon 15 Air runs the Android 10 OS under the HiOS 6.0.1 skin. The HiOS may come with some beautiful add-ons like WhatsApp Call recorder, quick tab, bike and game mode, WhatsApp mode, etc. It also comes with a lot of bloatware and adverts that usually piss off users.
The phone has a 5000mAH battery with a Safe charge. It should last over a day on heavy usage. The phone is expected to be sold for around N50,000.
