Breeders can get creative and give you cats with black fur, yellow-eyes, short-fur, and long-fur, leopard-looking cats, big cats, fat cats and even cats with short legs
Good news cat lovers. There are varieties of unimaginable cats that you probably never heard of. This is a list of unusual, new, and rare house cats you should have in your home.
1. Sokoke
The African Sokoke cats look a lot like the cheetah. These active cats have spots on their bodies with big cute ears. They surface just at the end of the 1970s and have become popular all through Europe.
Sokokes are the best to have because they don’t stress their owners at all. In fact, they are so independent but would only need enough space to play around.
2. American Wirehair
This breed of rare house cats got their names from how their furs look. The cats of this breed are cute, and their hairs are as soft as other cats. Just be sure not ever brush their hair when you bathe them, in order to keep the natural look and beauty of their fur.
The American Wirehairs are fun to have because they are good company. They can be very curious, but that’s not the only good thing about them, they are also obedient and can adapt to change quickly.
3. Nebelung
Nebelungs is a rare house cat that originated from the Russian blue cats. Although young Nebelungs can be very aggressive toward strangers, they are surprisingly charming to their owners. If you like it quiet, then this cat is for you.
4. LaPerm
If you are looking for unusual, then LaPerms are your best bet. These cats are so cool because their furs are naturally and permanently curly.
5. Minuet
The combination of Munchkin cats and Persians gave rise to the Minuet cats. The Minuet cats do not need any specific type of care and the fact that they are one of the smartest makes them stand out among other cats.
They are also safe around children because they show no form of aggression towards them or anyone.
6. Chantilly-Tiffany
The Chantilly-Tiffany rare house cats can be characterised by their long silk-like fur and chocolate-amber eyes. These beautiful cats are very smart and friendly towards children. The only form of care they require is to make sure their fur remains clean.
7. Foldex cat
This toy look-alike is the combination of British Shorthair, Persian and the Scottish Fold cats. They require lots of attention from their owner and their fur need caring for.
8. Bombay cat
Bombay cats have a striking resemblance to Bagheera from Rudyard Kipling’s Mowgli stories. Although the name Bombay is connected to India, the Bombay cats were not bred there but were originated from The United States.
They look a long like black panthers, with their black fur and amber-like yellow eyes. They, however, are great house pets, despite their wild look.
9. Dwelf
If you combine a Sphynx, Curls, and a Munchkin, you get a Dwelf. Not only that, the Dwelf has all the usual traits of these breeds of cats it originated from. Just in case you are wondering what they look like: the Dwelf are cats with no fur, curly ears and short legs to carry them.
They could pass as gipsy’s pets and require all the attention you can give them. They also need regular washing and cleaning of their ears, eyes and nose every day.
10. American Curl
The ears of the American Curls make them unique due to their unusual shape. Curls can possess either long or short fur, and in any colour, but the most noticeable part of their body is their ears.
Their ears stand out because they are curled. They make great company because they aren’t only loyal with excellent health, but are also communicative as well.
11. Selkirk Rex
Similar to LaPerms, Selkirk Rex also has permanent curly furs. They are the combination of British, Persian and some exotic breed with dominant curly fur gene.
Selkirk Rex cats could pass for small bears and are really kind and loyal. They do, however; need to be taken care of every day, especially their furs. Otherwise, a problem might arise.
12. Chartreux
The Chartreux has one of the oldest European lineages dating as far back as 600 years ago. The Chartreux remarkably huge cats with blue fur, honey-like eyes, and independent personalities.
They display jealousy if you have other animals around them and can be very territorial, but they are good pets.
13. Singapura cat
The Singapura cats are surprisingly the smallest cats in the world. That doesn’t stop them from living a healthy life; in fact, they do not need any special care to survive. If you want small cats, look no further.
14. Kinkalow
The Kinkalow is the combination of the American Curls and Munchkins, and it possesses characters from both breeds.
They got their curly fur from the American Curls, and their petite stature and short legs are obtained from Munchkins.
Currently, there aren’t enough Kinkalow in the world. In fact, they are a little above 100 Kinkalow available, but the breed is gradually becoming more popular.
15. Lykoi
If you are into wolves, then Lykoi is for you. They share a striking resemblance with wolves and have a different black fur that looks a lot like a possum’s hair. The absence of fur on their faces gives them their wolf-look.
Despite their physical features, Lykoi cats are friendly and loyal pets.
16. American Ringtail
The American Ringtail is a new and controversial bread because not everyone agrees it’s a breed yet.
They possess curled tails like the Husky’s and are very curious and playful. They do their best to be communicative, and unlike other cats, the American Ringtails love water.
