Joeboy Biography
Joeboy was born May 21, 1997, in Lagos State, Nigeria, he spent most of his life in Lagos, where he discovered the love of music at the age of 16, having grown up in a house of music, his elder brother was a choir and his father a pianist in a church in which they worshiped.
His biggest musical creativity is 9ice and ID Cabasa, two Nigerian artists with whom he depleted much of his schedule in the studio while studying his craft.

At 17, Joeboy recorded his first single titled Gbeseyin, the song Afrobeat. In 2017, he released a version of “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran, which received rave reviews in Nigeria and off the coast of our country.
This cover made people recognize him as new to the Nigerian music industry and also caught the attention of Mr. Eazi. Mr. Eazi has originated a talent incubator for future African music artists known as emPawa Africa.
This multi-service company provides marketing, distribution, publishing, labeling, and management services, giving African artists with the tools, knowledge, networks, and investments to grow and export. He also began his music from Africa to the world, # emPawa100, a mentoring and fundraising program, and encouraged Joeboy to apply.
Joeboy applied to become one of 10,000 applicants from 14 countries, and by subscribing to the program, the first of 100 recipients earned $3,000 to help a new generation of African artists succeed.
He used his $3,000 to make a Faaji video, and in one month, he became one of ten lines selected for a mentor training camp in South Africa, one of two artists to receive additional funding of $50,000.
Before joining emPawa100, Joeboy sang solo on social media clips, despite growing up in a musical family, and musically became a completely different person after playing. This helped him enhance his artistic profession.
In March 2019, Joeboy dropped the hit song Baby, a love song that ranked the top 10 on the Apple Music charts in Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya. He released another hit single, Beginning, as a sequel to “Baby” and featured Beats 1 Ebro in its unveiled segment. The song also ranked number one on Apple Music in Nigeria and Uganda.
On November 8, 2019, Joeboy released an extended playlist (EP) named “Love & Light,” composed of five songs. The album was created under the Banku Music label under the especial license of emPawa Africa Limited.
