A few days ago Instagram took measures to secure further its billion user-strong platform, where it has finally decided to give its users the opportunity to earn the iconic blue tick and get their profile verified.
Yea, you heard it right. The blue checkmark which signifies a verified profile had previously been super limited to brands, public figures, and other major profiles are now being opened to the masses.
This means you would no longer have to pester Instagram for that iconic blue tick or head to the black market to get one for yourself.
The popular image-sharing platform is now giving everyone a chance to prove their authenticity and apply for the verification process using a straightforward form.
Steps to apply for verification on Instagram
If you have been waiting for a long time for such an option, follow the steps below to apply to get that shiny iconic blue tick next to your name on your Instagram profile:
- Navigate to your Instagram profile, tap the 3 (three) vertical lines at the top right to access the ‘Settings’ and then head over to the newly added ‘Request Verification’ option.
- You will be required to enter your name and attach an identification document to send in your request for verification. Instagram needs you to use your ‘government-issued photo ID that shows your name and birth date’ for the process. The details on your legal document which will be used to submit the form should match those in your account to complete the same.
Note: You can either attach your passport or national ID card, driver’s license (which in India’s case could be the Aadhaar card). Instagram also accepts official business documents such as tax filings, utility bills or article of incorporation for a brand.
Though the process might look straightforward and simple, it still doesn’t guarantee you the blue tick. The company in its official blog post, says that it will review every received request to see whether the profile is authentic and belongs to a “notable figure, global brand, celebrity or entity.”
Instagram has finally made the process for doling out the blue ticks and verifying of profiles transparent, extending users like us the hope to bag that blue tick and be on the path to fame.
Once you have applied for verification (or going to), then you would receive a notification once your request has been approved. If not, you will have to wait for 30 days to re-apply for verification. This new feature is already live on iOS but in the coming days will make its way to Android.
