What’s NIN?
The National Identification Number (NIN) is a unique 11 digit number that identifies you as a Nigerian and is given to you when NIMC completes enrollment in the National Identity Database (NIDB).
It can never be reassigned, issued or used by another person once a NIN is allocated to an entity, which makes it special in nature.
All citizens and legal Nigerian residents are eligible to register for their NINs in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above.
What is NIMC?
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is the legislative body created by the 2007 NIMC Act No. 23. The body has the mandate to set up, own, operate, maintain and administer the National Identity Database in Nigeria.
They are to register individuals covered by the Act, to grant a Unique National Identification Number (NIN) and to issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to Nigerian citizens as well as to those who are Nigerian citizens.
