Dovid demands that Ronit stay with him despite being taken aback by her presence. When Ronit learns that Esti, a friend from their shared childhood, is now Dovid’s wife, she is shocked.
However, Ronit goes to see her uncle Moshe to talk about what will happen to her father’s house. She found out that her father has bequeathed all of his belongings to the synagogue and is only permitted to enter the house to recover personal items.
Esti accompanies her, and after the two women talk about their memories of the Rav’s home, Ronit is given a tender kiss by Esti. Ronit initially rebuffs it, but then she gives it back. Esti admits that her wish to see Ronit again led her to request that Ronit will know of her father’s passing.

Charlotte develops a high fever after taking an ocean bath as part of her recovery. Dr. Lieberson, her doctor, orders Mary to be her bedside nurse and advises bed rest.
Charlotte sends Mary a letter requesting that she travel to London. Mary finds one of her enormous ammonite fossils on exhibition in a glass cabinet when she gets to the Murchison residence.
Charlotte shows Mary a bedroom prepared for her to move into while they are upstairs. Mary becomes upset and walks away, accusing Charlotte of disregarding her existence and declaring that she won’t turn into an ornament for Charlotte to showcase in a “gilded cage.”
