Pick your best, get your popcorn ready, and stream away.
1. Lost in Space
- Star Cast: Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell, and Parker Posey
- 3 Seasons
Legendary Television and several other companies teamed up to produce this television series. Zack Estrin is the showrunner of the series written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.
Lost in Space landed among 2018 sci-fi TV shows on April 13 with the first season, and Netflix renewed it for a second season that premiered on December 24, 2019. The show returned to TV screens with its 3rd season in December 2021.
Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation will enjoy this series, which is an excellent, optimistic sci-fi show that will make you feel like an enormous human.
Lost in Space is a modern-day series that incorporates the best modern filming practices into a two-century-old story.
Now, let’s take a brief look at the story. In a semi-post-apocalyptic future, life on Earth has become stale and lacks excitement. Many people, including the Robinsons family, journey to a new world: Alpha Centauri.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Robinsons’ family crashland on an unknown planet. They must use everything they know to survive and escape the dangers surrounding them.
Lost in Space maintains its high quality from beginning to end.
2. Altered Carbon
- Star Cast: Joel Kinnaman, James Purefoy, Martha Higareda, Chris Conner, Dichen Lachman, and Ato Essandoh
- 2 Seasons
Laeta Kalogridis created this American cyberpunk television series based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 novel The Altered Carbon.
Imagine a world where a man’s consciousness could live virtually forever. An ultra-rich man releases Takeshi Kovacs, a former soldier, from prison to murder.
Netflix released the ten-episode first season on February 2 as one of the 2018 sci-fi TV shows.
It renewed it for a second season, which was released with eight episodes on February 27, 2020. Despite positive reviews, the studio canceled the show after two seasons.
Technology will allow man to interchange bodies three hundred years later while retaining the original consciousness.
This virtually eliminates death in society. Takeshi Kovacs survived the destruction of a group of elite interstellar warriors during the uprising against the new world order.
Despite surviving, the authorities imprisoned Takeshi’s mind for centuries. A wealthy businessman, Laurens Bancroft, offers him an opportunity to live again, and Laurens asks Takeshi to solve a murder if he wishes to keep his body.
Altered Carbon was one of the best 2018 sci-fi TV shows, and it portrays a very realistic picture of the world 250 years from now.
The use of virtual reality to interrogate criminals is quite revolutionary. It is safe to say that we are quickly approaching this concept by creating the metaverse.
3. Black Lightning
- Star Cast: Cress Williams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, and Damon Gupton
- 4 Seasons
Salim Akil developed this American superhero sci-fi TV series that premiered on the CW on January 16, 2018. Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden created a similar character published in the DC Comics series.
This is one of the superhero-based 2018 sci-fi TV shows released as part of the Arrowverse. It follows Black Lightning as he returns from retirement to life as a superhero and explores the effects of his vigilante activities on his life.
The CW picked up the series with a new pilot script after Fox passed it in February 2017. The first season, released on January 16, 2018, contained 13 episodes, and the CW renewed it for a second season, which premiered on October 9, 2018, with 16 episodes.
The activities of The 100, Freeland’s most feared criminal gang led by Tobias Whale in the city, forced Jefferson to become Black Lightning again.
One hundred members associated with Latavius “Lala” Jackson capture his two daughters, Anissa and Jennifer, prompting him to wear the suit again.
This is an incredible series. How would you feel if you could throw lightning out of your hands? Let us know in the comments section.
4. Titans
- Star Cast: Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, and Conor Leslie
- 3 Seasons
Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti created this American superhero streaming TV series. It is one of the 2018 sci-fi TV shows based on the DC Comics team, Teen Titans, and it is an incredible adaptation of the comics.
Titans follow the young heroes from across the DC Universe as they grow older and discover their place among other superheroes.
Rachel Roth, a special girl possessed by a mighty dark force, and Dick Grayson get involved in a conspiracy to unleash hell on Earth. I mean the actual hell.
Hot-headed Starfire and Beast Boy join Grayson and Roth as they bond to fight evil forces. The second season focuses on the reformation of the Titans, and Grayson trains Rachel, Gar, and Jason as members of the new team.
The feared assassin Deathstroke reemerges when the Titans reform. Let’s not forget he caused the team to disband before. For those who do not know, Slade Wilson from the popular Arrow show is Deathstroke.
Deathstroke tries to eliminate the new heroes, forcing them to face him again. Meanwhile, the malevolent Cadmus Laboratories and Kory’s sister Blackfire emerge as new threats to the Titans and the city.
If you love young teenage movies, you will like this series.
5. Manifest
- Star Cast: Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J. R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, and Jack Messina
- 3 Seasons
About 191 passengers of the Montego Air Flight 828 returned after being presumed dead. They try to return to the lives they once knew.
As things progressed, new revelations came to light, unsettling them. This series reminded me of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which was never found.
The passengers boarded the flight hoping to get to their destinations, and no one can tell to this day where it went. The passengers of Montego Air Flight 828 experienced slight turbulence.
When the flight lands at Stewart International Airport in Newburg, New York, the NSA deputy director, Robert Vance, speaks to the passengers.
He informs them that they’ve been flying for five and a half years, and everyone back home presumed them dead.
The passengers discovered that many things had changed during their time away. Relationships no longer existed.
At the same time, guiding voices and visions tell the passengers events yet to occur.
This series is one of the supernatural 2018 sci-fi TV shows. Netflix announced the renewal for a fourth season in August 2021.
6. Nightflyers
- Star Cast: Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Jodie Turner-Smith, Angus Sampson, Sam Strike, and Maya Eshet
- 1 Season
This is an exciting sci-fi TV show. You will love it if you don’t compare it to other 2018 sci-fi TV shows.
Humankind built the Nightflyer, the most advanced ship ever. A team of scientists boarded it on an expedition to make the first contact with aliens.
The alien theme has been rocking our science fiction television for centuries. Yet, we haven’t seen or heard from any.
Do you think aliens exist? Let me know in the comments. Nightflyers is based on a novella and a series of short stories by George R. R. Martin.
The mission takes the scientist beyond the solar system’s edge, farther than humankind has ever gone.
2093 is long enough for us to build ships that can transcend space. As for time, I am not so sure, but maybe we can.
Terrifying and violent events cause the team and crew to question themselves and their captain.
They soon realize that the true horror they fear is not waiting for them in outer space and is already on the ship.
7. The Rain
- Star Cast: Alba August, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, and Mikkel Følsgaard
- 3 Seasons
I’m just imagining things right now. With all the things that could wipe humankind, it is rain.
How can this be? In this series, a rain-carried virus has wiped out nearly everybody in Scandinavia. Six years later, two Danish siblings emerge from a safe bunker.
This is a post-apocalyptic 2018 sci-fi show. It explores the lives of the survivors as they embark on a danger-filled journey to discover other lives. Don’t expect too much from it, and you will be fine.
The surviving teenagers believe they are free from the societal shenanigans of the past. They are soon shocked to realize that love, jealousy, and youthful exuberance are still embedded in their DNA. In the end, they are still humans.
