Top 10 Must-Watch Netflix Series from 2016

2016 series on NetflixPin

Although 2016 had its ups and downs, one thing is certain: some 2016 series on Netflix were produced that year.

Game of Thrones and Girls produced some of their greatest episodes, while new series like Stranger Things and The Night Of drew impassioned audiences.

As usual, one television category that did not disappoint was Netflix’s original shows. Over the previous two years, the streaming service has continuously amazed by releasing hit after success.

Also, as Netflix’s offerings have grown, its followers have been exposed to an increasing amount of excellent television, all of which are available to stream on the site.

Netflix debuted innovative new shows like Easy this year and expanded on fan favorites like Orange Is the New Black.

Below are the 2016 series on Netflix to binge on;

1. Stranger Things Season 1

  • Director: Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer
  • Star casts: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Gaten Matarazzo.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.7

Stranger Things is among the 2016 series on Netflix. Over fifteen movie studios rejected it before catching on with millions of viewers in the summer of 2016.

That’s a lot of hate for Will Byers and the Demogorgon’s epic journey, and the show’s success is a tribute to the Duffer Brothers’ dedication to bringing their sci-fi vision to life.

It seems like a lost 1980s Spielberg film resurrected by the Duffer Brothers and updated with all the necessary binge-watching features. Stranger Things deserved every praise, from the opening theme music to the actors.

The kid-driven cast is on point; Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is a scene-stealer, while seasoned actors Winona Ryder and David Harbour round out the supporting cast.

2. Bojack Horseman, Season 3

  • Director: Raphael Bob-Waksberg
  • Star casts: Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Aaron Paul, and Paul F. Tompkins.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.8

Bojack Horseman proves that horses can make men weep. From afar, Netflix’s brilliant dramedy may appear a typical animated show: weak on depth, strong on coarse gags, and easily forgotten.

Instead, creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and actor Will Arnett have produced a hard-hitting show that entertains while shedding light on Hollywood’s inner degeneration.

Bojack (Arnett) tackles his chronic melancholy and stalled career with the fleeting antidotes of drugs, sex, and drink as a washed-up sitcom star.

While the previous two seasons portray Bojack as a brittle horseman who hides his wickedness behind his stardom, season three is the show’s unquestionable pinnacle.

The industry critique is particularly biting as Bojack rides a new wave of fame during his attempted career revival.

While many live-action movies have attempted to capture Los Angeles’ emotionally desolate society, few can match Bojack Horseman’s excellent plot.

3. Easy, Season 1

  • Director: Joe Swanberg
  • Star casts: Michael Chernus, Jane Adams, Elisabeth Reaser, and Jacqueline Toboni.
  • IMDB Rating: 6.9

When Joe Swanberg debuted his lively, adaptable, and improv-based show Easy to Netflix this fall, it piqued the interest of many.

Easy hasn’t quite gotten its footing yet, but it has much potential. With a strong cast, a dedication to diversity, an experimental directing approach, and a flexible framework, this show has the potential to rise. This is among the 2016 series on Netflix.

4. House Of Cards, Season 4

  • Director: Beau Willimon
  • Star casts: Kevin Spacey, Michel Gill, Robin Wright, Kate Mara, and Michael Kelly.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.7

Political dramas abound, but House of Cards has reshaped the genre. While the first season is still the best, the most recent episodes have helped the show return to its core selling point: going inside Frank Underwood’s sick and devious head.

Season 4 also provides his wife Claire (Robin Wright) more autonomy than ever before, putting Frank’s authority in jeopardy and giving opportunities to strengthen it.

The Underwoods have been progressively driven apart over the show’s storyline as they slowly transform into contemporary Macbeth monsters with limited supplies of compunction.

When his two most renowned victims, Peter Russo, and Zoe Barnes, besiege him in a hallucination of Shakespearean severity, Frank is faced with the specters of his homicidal past. “Because that’s how excellent we are,” Underwood brags to Catherine Durant (Jayne Atkinson) about his seeming immunity.

Frank’s retribution appears to be on the way and will be spectacular. The Underwood Union was completely eclipsed when the most recent season ended.

Frank and Claire backed into a political hole, breached the fourth wall, and fired the opening bullets of their rebellion. This will undoubtedly be the subject of the forthcoming fifth season.

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Season 2

  • Director: Robert Carlock and Tina Fey
  • Star casts: Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane, and Sara Chase.
  • IMDB Rating: 7.6

Unbreakable by Tina Fey Kimmy Schmidt is one of the 2016 series on Netflix. It was just as entertaining in its second season as in the first.

Schmidt’s smile was as broad as ever, Fey’s lines were packed with humor, and the characters had the same charming, wacky spirit that had made them so popular in the first place.

However, things took a darker turn this season, giving Unbreakable’s second season the depth it lacked in the first.

6. Orange Is The New Black, Season 4

  • Director: Jenji Kohan
  • Star casts: Taylor Schilling, Danielle Brooks, Taryn Manning, Emma Myles, and Kate Mulgrew.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.1

Orange Is the New Black has been a challenging and adventurous drama.

The prison epic, from the mind of Jenji Kohan (Weeds), has repeatedly juggled its wide story and enormous cast.

After three more daring seasons, viewers were concerned that the series’ wheels would fall off.

Also, their favorite characters would make decisions better suited to the show’s continuation than the plot’s progression.

Their anxieties were allayed when Orange Is the New Black flipped the storyline, raising the stakes for characters and leaving people with some significant cliffhangers.

OITNB has gripped the cultural zeitgeist in a way that compliments Ava Duvernay’s harrowing documentary, 13th, more than ever before.

Despite the series’ willingness to delve headfirst into conflict, Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) and the rest of the top-tier ensemble have given it the gift of honest humor.

7. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, Season 1

  • Director: Amy Sherman-Palladino
  • Star casts: Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Paterson, Kelly Bishop, and Rose Abdoo.
  • IMDB Rating: 7.6

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, the much-anticipated comeback, was a gift for fans waiting years for Stars Hollow to return to their television screens.

The four-part series, packed with the show’s famed witty banter and visits from popular characters, proved Gilmore Girls is still as fantastic as ever. Prepare to laugh, weep, and passionately want a comeback.

8. Narcos, Season 2

  • Director: Carlo Bernard, Chris Brancato, and Doug Miro
  • Star casts: Pedro Pascal, Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, Alberto Amman, and Muratcan Savci.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.9

Netflix’s ambitious dramatization of Pablo Escobar’s rise and collapse was a tremendous project that most other studios would not dare to take on.

While the first season gradually got its stride, the audience’s patience was tested by the voiceover-heavy and dual-language plot.

The great actors carried the story until the storyline picked up the pace, and Wagner Moura’s portrayal of the cocaine lord kept viewers engrossed throughout the series.

Every spark set in season one led to a sequence of explosions in season two when the DEA and the Colombian government finally stopped Pablo Escobar’s climb to power.

It’s a cat-and-mouse game between agents Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal), who spend their lives trying to bring down the elusive Escobar.

Even though the grand climax has already been written in history, Narcos maintains high tension throughout the series.

9. The Crown, Season 1

  • Director: Peter Morgan
  • Star casts: Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, Imelda Staunton, and Matt Smith
  • IMDB Rating: 8.7

The Crown, a 10-episode Netflix series, is a charming and captivating look at the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. It is one of the 2016 series on Netflix you can binge on today.

The Crown is a visually magnificent and emotionally compelling movie that tells the story of Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne while remaining historically accurate.

10. Black Mirror, Season 3

  • Director: Annabel Jones and Charlie Brooker
  • Star casts: Bryce Dallas, Jerome Flynn, Wyatt Russel, and Michael Kelly.
  • IMDB Rating: 8.1

No one can stop viewing Black Mirror, no matter how horrifying its reflection is. Indeed, Charlie Booker’s dystopian series was so successful that Don Draper himself, Jon Hamm, asked if he might be a part of it.

Even though the show has been on British television since 2011 and has garnered a devoted following, the third season has taken it to new heights.

Netflix knelt on one knee and welcomed Black Mirror into the fold in one of the company’s most remarkable actions.

The third season is just as terrifying as the first two. Black Mirror is the binge-watching incarnation of reductio ad absurdum since it takes current sci-fi and technical notions and pushes them to their limits.

After watching just one episode, you’ll never look at your phone, Facebook, or dating app in the same way again.

According to Black Magic, the Skynet catastrophe is much closer than you’d like to believe. Science fiction shows and movies often inhabit the comfortable area between the present and the future.
