1. My Bloody Valentine (1981)

An accident (methane gas explosion) takes place in Hanniger Mine near the small Nova Scotia town of Valentine Bluffs and leads to the death of a group of coal miners. 

The accident happened because supervisors left the mine to attend Valentine’s day party.

A year after the accident, Harry Warden (Peter Cowper) – the only survivor – takes his revenge by killing two supervisors and warns the town never to hold any Valentine’s day dance. 

Twenty years later, a group of young adults decides to have Valentine’s day dance, rejecting warnings from people.

The dance is canceled after a blood-soaked heart is sent to the police station as a warning. 

However, Valentine’s day dance is held at the coal mine; the result is the death of young people in the town.

Does it mean Henry Warden is back to punishing people who went against his warning? My Bloody Valentine is rated 56% by Rotten Tomatoes.

A pop singer Valentine Fawkes (Britt Baron), is playing a show at a small bar on Valentine’s Day when her abusive ex-boyfriend Royal (Benedict Samuel), who acts as her ex-manager, walks into the bar with his new girlfriend/protege Trezzure (Anna Lore). 

Both ladies look alike, including how they sound; Royal tries to manipulate them when tension rises in the club and people have to leave.

The result of his manipulation is a bloody and violent fight. One of Valentine’s day horror movies, the movie will keep you entertained, especially if you are a pop music fan.

3. Pontypool (2009)

He and some of his colleagues – Sydney (Lisa Houle) and Mendez (Hrant Alianak), lock themselves in a booth to survive the chaos and warn their listeners of the virus without using the English language.

Rated 84% by Rotten Tomatoes, this movie has gory scenes and a storyline that keeps your heart thumping until the end.

This time loop also affects Carter’s roommate, Ryan (Phi Vu), who faces a mysterious paranoid killer in a single-toothed baby-faced mask with a big kitchen knife, killing him each Day.

How will these friends escape the time loop and move on with their everyday life?

Rotten Tomatoes rated Happy Death Day 2U 71%, and many praised the performances of the lead characters, especially Jessica Rothe.

5. Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)

What happened to these women? Are there ghosts in the deep crevices of the rock?

This movie, inspired by actual events, was adapted from a book called Picnic at Hanging Rock.

6. Down (2019)

She only wishes to finish work and enjoy the long Valentine’s Day weekend.

However, she gets stuck in the elevator with her colleague – Guy (Matt Lauria).

From these people having chemistry to their Valentine’s Day plans as Guy turns out to be a crazy guy who has been stalking Jennifer. 

Guy killed another colleague Eddie and his date (Christina Leone), who happened to come to the office building to see the beautiful roof.

Will Jennifer survive the crazy guy? The turn of events gives viewers the ultimate satisfaction as the twist of events was not expected.

7. The Love Witch (2016)

Another great addition to our list of Valentine’s day horror movies is The Love Witch.

It is better to be alive alone than in love but dead. Elaine (Samantha Robinson) is a beautiful witch who desperately needs a lover after the death of her husband, Jerry; she performs a ritual and seduces Wayne (Jeffery Vincent Parise), a literature professor. 

After sex, the victim becomes clingy, leading to his death, and the same scenario plays out with Richard (Robert Seeley).

Griff (Gian Keys), a police officer, is sent to investigate the death, but he falls in love with the suspect.

When Elaine tries to feed him a mixed concoction, Griff rejects it and tells her man can love her enough, resulting in Elaine stabbing him to death due to anger.

The Love Witch is a movie you can watch with your partner to show them as a warning, and you can also watch it to console yourself about your single life on Valentine’s Day. Rotten Tomatoes rated The Love Witch 95%.

8. Warm Bodies (2013)

Can a zombie become friends with a human? Warm Bodies shows it can be possible for a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world – Julie (Teresa Palmer), her boyfriend Perry (Dave Franco), and her friend Nora (Lio Tipton) to go to scavenge for supplies and meet with a group of zombies. 

R (Nicholas Hoult), a young and introspective zombie, eats Perry’s brain, and some of his memories come alive, causing him to fall in love with Julie; he feels the urge to protect her.

He hides her in his home and saves her from other zombies, and they both develop a bond.

Their friendship leads to R regaining his human side, and they face the challenge of bridging the difference between their worlds.

Warm Bodies keeps viewers on their feet with its horrific scenes while wondering if the relationship between the lead characters is possible.

That night, Bea sleepwalks into the forest naked and is found by Paul; however, she starts to act disoriented and suspiciously.

She was impregnated with a creature by a group of silhouetted figures the night she wandered into the forest.

She kills Paul, and the creature deteriorates and peels off her skin.

There are so many gory scenes in this movie, so your pulse rate will go higher and faster while your heart thumps harder. Rotten Tomatoes gave Honeymoon 76%.

11. Hospital Massacre (1982)

The story starts in 1961 when young Susan Jeremy (Elizabeth Hoy) and her friend David (Michael Romano) mock and reject Valentine’s day card sent by Harold (Billy Jayne), an unpopular boy.

This act leads to Harold murdering David by hanging him. 19 years later, Susan goes to the hospital with her new boyfriend, Jack (Jon Van Ness), to get her physical exam results.

Harold (Charles Lucia), disguised in surgical garb, kills the doctor with Susan’s results and every staff member who comes in contact with Susan and her boyfriend. 

Harold takes Susan to an empty surgical room and wants to cut her heart open in revenge for rejecting his Val gift.

He is stabbed and burnt by Susan. While this movie teaches that not all Valentine’s day gifts or proposals should be accepted, we need to be polite while doing so.

12. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

13. Audition (1999)

He asks the help of his friend Yasuhisa Yoshikawa (Jun Kunimura), a film producer, who decides to conduct a mock audition for a wife. 

Asami Yamazaki (Eihi Shiina) applies, and Shigeharu is enthralled by her and proposes marriage.

Asami Yamazaki is a killer who cannot tolerate sharing her man or lover with anyone, including family.

She tried killing Shigeharu and his son but was overpowered and killed. Rotten Tomatoes rated Audition 83%.

This movie will teach viewers that sometimes love comes with grief and surprises.

14. Carrie (2013)

Her first period made her run out of the changing room, which made her face humiliated by her classmates.

At the same time, Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday) took a video of her and uploaded it on the internet.

Carrie discovers she has telekinesis power and learns how to control it. She unleashed the monster in her when some group of boys plotted an evil prank on her.

15. Ready or Not (2019)

Grace (Samara Weaving) is married to Alex (Mark O’Brien), and on her wedding night, she has to go through the Le Domas family ritual and survive or get killed. Grace comes up with a means to turn the table around.

This movie will take viewers to some of the deadly traditions most family observes, and unsuspecting victims can be dragged into them. Rotten Tomatoes rated Ready or Not 88%.
