Memorial Day commemorates our departed warriors and is an opportunity to reflect on the loss of military troops. Several of the best Memorial Day movies are on Amazon Prime.

They’re among the top five Amazon movies to watch on Memorial Day weekend. Furthermore, the majority of the films on this list are military films.

Some aren’t, but it’s worth watching because it was recently introduced to the streaming service.

However, some movies are available for free on Amazon Prime Video while others are on rent.

The best Memorial Day movies on Amazon Prime are listed below.

1. 13 Hours

Libya, the year 2012. A group of ex-military contractors is protecting an unofficial CIA base in Benghazi. A power vacuum persists after Gaddafi’s demise, and the situation is unpredictable.

Furthermore, Armed forces weaponry is widely available. Chris Stevens, the US Ambassador to Libya, pays a visit to the area and stays at a facility near the CIA base. 

Additionally, the Ambassador’s compound was attacked by hordes of highly armed locals on September 11, 2012. Six CIA contractors are the only ones willing and capable of defending it.

The top cast of 13 Hours are Dominic Fumusa, James Badge Dale, John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, Max Martini, and David Denman.  

2. Memorial Day (2012)

Memorial Day is one of the must-watch and best Memorial Day movies on Amazon Prime. It was Memorial Day in 1993.

When Kyle Vogel, 13, discovers his grandfather’s World War II footlocker, everyone tells him he should return it.  

He, fortunately, ignores them. Even though Bud has never discussed the war with his grandson, he strikes a deal with him: Kyle can choose any three keepsakes, and Bud will tell him the tales behind each one. 

Furthermore, Memorial Day transports us to Bud’s tumultuous wartime past and Kyle’s uncertain wartime future.  

However, as the two men talk about their military experiences, they realize how that fantastic day on the porch affected their lives. The top cast includes Jonathan Bennett, James Cromwell, and John Cromwell.

3. Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

The Hacksaw Ridge is about the actual story of Desmond T. Doss. He was a conscientious objector awarded the Medal of Honor for his fantastic bravery and regard for his fellow soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa.  

Furthermore, we see how his childhood influenced his views, particularly his religious beliefs and anti-killing position.

However, after entering the US Army and attempting to become a medic, we observe Doss’s hardships and tribulations.  

Finally, we visit Hacksaw Ridge, a literal hell on Earth. The top cast includes Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, and Hugo Weaving.  

4. The Wall (2017)

During the Iraq War, sharpshooter Staff Sergeant Shane Matthews is dispatched with his spotter, Sergeant Allen Isaac, to inspect a pipeline construction site in the country’s desert.

The duo patiently waits 22 hours on over-watch before concluding that the place is safe.

Furthermore, Matthews continues his investigation but is fatally shot by an Iraqi sniper. Isaac tries to save the dying Matthews.

However, he is injured in the right knee, and his radio and water bottle are broken. The top cast includes John Cena and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. 

5. Operation Red Sea (2018)

Operation Red Sea is one of the best Memorial Day movies on Amazon Prime. The Chinese Navy patrol fleet receives a distress signal while on duty and touring the Red Sea when Somali pirates board the Guangdong cargo ship, endangering Chinese passengers and service members on board.  

In addition, they quickly deployed the Marine Corps’ 8-man Jiaolong Assault Team as a front unit to halt the pirates’ progress until the heavily armed navy warships arrived in the area.  

Furthermore, they made substantial headway in neutralizing the situation with the help of a forward helicopter and a sniper dispatched as part of the assault force.

They managed to eliminate all Somali pirates on board while waiting for the leading Chinese navy on duty in the Red Sea.

The top cast includes Zhang Yi, Huang Jingyu, Hai Qing, Du Jiang, Jiang Luxia, and Yin Fang.  

6. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Beginning on June 6, 1944, with the Allied invasion of Normandy, members of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, led by Cpt. Miller fights ashore to establish a beachhead.

In addition, two brothers are slain in battle during the fighting. A third brother was killed earlier in New Guinea.  

Furthermore, Mrs. Ryan, their mother, will receive all three grave telegrams on the same day. When the United States Army Chief of Staff, George C. Marshall, learns of a fourth brother, Private James Ryan, he sends out eight soldiers (including Cpt.  

Additionally, Miller and members of the 2nd Rangers) to find him and return him to his mother. The top cast includes Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, and Tom Sizemore.  

7. The Ghost Army (2013)

During World War II, a select group of American soldiers embarked on an unusual mission: to stage a deception roadshow on the battlefields of Europe, with the German Army as their audience.  

The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops repeatedly bluffed the enemy, frequently directly along the front lines, with inflatable rubber tanks, sound vehicles, and spectacular performance art.  

Furthermore, many of the guys chosen to carry out these risky deception missions were also artists. Some, such as fashion designer Bill Blass, became famous.  

Additionally, they painted and sketched their way around Europe in their spare time, creating a unique and emotional visual chronicle of their battle.

Their covert mission remained a secret for over 50 years after the war ended. The top cast is Wesley K Clark and Peter Coyote.  

8. Lions For Lambs (2007)

Lions for lakhs is one of the best Memorial Day movies on Amazon Prime. In ninety minutes in real-time, three stories are told simultaneously.

A Republican senator running for president explains a strategy for victory in Afghanistan in an hour-long interview with a skeptical television reporter.  

As Taliban troops move in on two special forces ambushed on an Afghan ridge, a poli-sci professor at a California college asks a potential student to re-engage.

Furthermore, the reporter, the student, and the soldiers are all under pressure to make decisions.

The top cast includes Andrew Garfield, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, Michael Pea, and Robert Redford. 

9. Jarhead (2005)

In the late 1980s, Anthony “Swoff” Swofford, a Camus-reading Sacramento teen, joins the Marines.

He has a few missteps throughout boot camp but makes it through as a sniper, paired with Troy, who is typically dependable.  

His battalion is sent to Saudi Arabia to participate in Desert Shield when the Gulf War breaks out.

After 175 days of boredom, adrenaline, heat, fear about his girlfriend finding someone else, losing it, and nearly killing a comrade, demotion, latrine cleaning, malfunctioning gas masks, and desert football, Desert Storm begins.  

Furthermore, it’s over in less than five days, but not before Swoff sees burned bodies, flaming oil derricks, an oil-soaked horse, and possibly a chance to kill. Where does all the testosterone go? 

10. Last Flag Flying (2017)

Former Navy Hospital Corpsman Larry “Doc” Shepherd reunites with ex-Marines Sal and Mueller in 2003 for a different mission: to bury Doc’s son, a young Marine slain in the Iraq War, 30 years after they served together in the Vietnam War.  

Furthermore, Doc foregoes burial at Arlington Cemetery in favor of a bittersweet journey up the East Coast to his home in suburban New Hampshire, where he will be supported by his old friends.

The top cast includes Cicely Tyson, Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne, and Yul Vazquez. 

11. 1944: Forced To Fight (2015)

Director Elmo Nüganen’s film “1944” depicts actual events on the Eastern Front in Estonia in 1944, from the Battle of the Tannenburg Line through the combat on the Sinimäed Hills in July and November, when the Soviet Army had already taken the Serve peninsula.  

Furthermore, the war is seen through the perspective of participants on both sides of the conflict, including Estonians who served in the German Army’s 20th Estonian Division Waffen-SS and the Soviet Army’s 8th Estonian Rifle Corps.  

Additionally, there was a conflict in which everyone made their own decisions for Estonians.

With such difficult choices, the central characters in the film are confronted. The top cast include Maiken Schmidt, Kaspar Velberg, Kristjan Üksküla.
