Kumail’s parents are hell-bent on pairing him up with a young Pakistani woman, but he doesn’t tow that line. He has even gone as far as dissociating from his religion.
However, in trying to get their approval, he still keeps his relationship with Emily hidden and loses her. Oh! He also gets disowned at some point.
After he proves his commitment to caring for Emily’s affairs at a point where she is gravely ill, we’re left with the question of what will become of their previously shattered relationship.
6. Paddington (2014)

He winds up with the Brown family, and they call him Paddington after the station where they found him. The whole family visits China to attend a relative’s wedding, giving them an excuse to see Grandma, Nai Nai, one last time before she does.
The family is wary of Billi, scared that she might disclose their secret, so her parents ask her to stay in New York. Of course, she flaunts their orders and goes to China for the wedding.
Will she see the big picture and understand the need to keep the secret from Nai Nai, or will she be too guilt-ridden to play along?
11. Lady Bird (2017)
