Eventually, Beau is killed by this creature after making some noise using a toy space shuttle. About a year later, Evelyn is pregnant with another child, and the family lives together in a house in the middle of the forest, using sign language to communicate.

However, during events nearing the birth of the child, Evelyn is attacked in the house, and at the same time, Reagan and Marcus are attacked somewhere else. 

This leads to the death of Lee as he tries to save his kids’ lives, and then the survivors figure out a way to fight off these monsters.
