This article is about the most popular Esport games of all time. Electronic sports, or eSports for short, are a type of sport in which players and teams from all over the world participate in various video games. Esports contests’ winner/winning team is frequently awarded large prizes and rewards.  

After the plague has passed and everything has returned to normal, gaming and eSports explode. Along with the number of participants and games, competitions and tournaments are growing.

Tens of thousands of competitive games are played in tournaments and eSports competitors worldwide every year.  

After considering their viewership, prize pool, competitors, and genre, we compiled a list of the top 11 most popular eSport games. 

1. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

In the traditional game mode of the strategic first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, two players compete as terrorists and anti-terrorists (CS: GO).  

A player killed in action cannot immediately rejoin the game, unlike most other shooters. Those murdered can only support their team in their next contest round.  

Additionally, the teams are given various missions in two separate game scenarios: Defusing a bomb: the terrorist squad attempts to install a bomb in one of the preset zones and protect it until the timer goes off.  

The anti-terrorists mission is to assassinate the terrorist team before they can plant their bomb or defuse it before it explodes.

Or on the terrorists’ side, there are two immobile captives, and the counter-terrorist team must rescue at least one of them and transport it to the hostage rescue zone. 

Furthermore, Players carrying a hostage cannot fire and must move more slowly. Terrorists can bring a hostage back to its original location if an anti-terrorist is killed during a rescue effort.

Victory is also achievable if the other squad is eliminated. In addition, the steep learning curve of CS: GO sets it apart from other first-person shooters.

Dota 2 is currently one of the most popular Esport games. Valve Corporation’s Dota 2 is a popular multiplayer battle arena esports game.

This game has a precursor called Defence of the Ancients: All-Stars. North America and Europe are the two regions where it is most popular.  

Furthermore, in most cases, the game is played in five groups, each player defending their sector on a map. One team wins by demolishing an “Ancient” structure within the opposing team’s base.

League of Legends has remained in the top eSports games since its release. Riot Games has created an exceptionally designed strategic game.

In League of Legends, two teams of five players battle against each other. Additionally, the game’s primary purpose is to demolish the opponent’s base, and there is no time limit.  

Since the first League of Legends event in 2009, the number of viewers, players, and tournaments has exploded worldwide.

The League of Legends (LoL) World Championship, which takes place every year in different locations worldwide with a $1 million prize pool, is the most important event in this eSports game.  

Furthermore, the tournament had a peak audience of over 3.8 million people last year. However, the number of participants and watchers continues to rise year after year. 

4. Fornite

The initial excitement surrounding the Battle Royale shooter “Fortnite” has yet to fade. The eSports game has a simple gaming principle: 100 people compete against each other on a large map.  

Unlike other Battle Royale games, though, Fortnite emphasizes gathering resources and constructing facilities. These can be used to obtain a tactical advantage over other players or provide cover. 

5. Overwatch

Next on our list of most popular Esport games is Overwatch. Overwatch is yet another gem in the eSports scene, with millions of gamers worldwide.

Overwatch is a team-based FPS shooting game developed by Blizzard Entertainment in 2016 that is both intense and exciting to play.  

Furthermore, the Overwatch World Cup (OWWC), organized by Blizzard Entertainment, is Overwatch’s largest annual international esports tournament.

Arena of Valor is a team-based five vs five battle-arena games developed by Garena in 2018. It was initially designed for mobile devices.

The game’s primary goal is to destroy one other’s bases on a map. It is well-known as a simple game to learn but challenging to master.  

According to reports, the arena of Valor has roughly 14.2 million average monthly players. In 2021, it was one of the most popular mobile MOBAs.

Furthermore, it is a game that anyone of any age can play. Aside from competitive competitions, every football enthusiast enjoys playing the sport. 

The current year’s major tournaments are the FIFA WORLD CUP, FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP, and FIFA NATIONS CUP. FIFA has added new elements to the tournaments thus far.

Apex Legends is a battle royale game developed and published by Respawn Entertainment in which players land in an arena, and the last player/team standing wins.  

Furthermore, Apex Legends gained popularity in 2020 after streamers began to play it on their channels and introduce it to the public. Players began to enjoy it and improved their skills to compete in tournaments. 

10. Valiant

Valiant is now one of the most popular eSports titles, thanks to its unique concept. A new full-action tactical game developed by Riot Games, Valiant has immense popularity. Riot has launched professional League of Legends competitions all across the world.  

Valiant has become a new eSports craze rather than a new title from a young studio. In addition, Riot announced its initial plans for Valorant eSports shortly after its debut, stating that it would take a more lenient approach.  

Furthermore, Riot describes three stages of competition using a well-organized format, with higher prize pools gradually growing each year. This makes the transition from amateur to professional much more accessible. 

11. StarCraft II

Rounding off our list of most popular esport games is Starcraft ii. Blizzard Entertainment created this real-time strategy game.

It is a follow-up to the first Starcraft game. The game is set on a science-fiction planet where three species are at odds: Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss.  

The base game Wings of Liberty and two expansion packs are divided into three parts. Terrans (humans) are discussed in the first section, while Zerg and Protoss are discussed in the second and third sections.
