Although we are now in 2023, the battle for the LGBTQ community’s representation and rights is far from over. We have many gay video game characters.
However, in the realm of video games, there are an increasing number of allies, and with it, a greater number of sexually diverse characters are included in really exceptional titles.
Because of this, this year at Ugami, we will also do everything we can to support any and all gamers who are part of this wonderful community.

1. Chloe (Life is Strange)
This is the first on our list of gay video game characters. At the very top of the list, we have one of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters that are recognized the most.
Chloe, the girl with blue hair that fans fell head over heels in love with, is undeniably one of the most adorable characters in the game Life is Strange, even though the game has become something of a symbol for members of the sexually diverse gaming community.
Her demeanor may be described as defiant and sarcastic, and she has a remarkable capacity for getting herself into bother.
On the other hand, she is kind and generous, which is one of the reasons why she is considered one of the most beloved characters among fans of graphic adventures.
In addition, Chloe embodies the archetype of the average young girl over heels in love and would sacrifice everything for the guy who captures her affection.
After they reunited, powerful emotions began to develop between the two, and they eventually became inseparable. Max had been her best friend since they were children.
Throughout the series, Chloe’s primary romantic interests are Max and Rachel. Her friendship with Rachel was not exactly the model of good health.
However, because her romance with Max is so well received, it was decided to make it a permanent part of the post-game comics. Our vote goes to Bae over Bay!
2. Trevor Phillips (GTA V)
When we discuss lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) characters in video games, we don’t simply concentrate on games about love.
Since of this, Grand Theft Auto is a fantastic source because it has always featured characters that are members of the community, such as Gay Tony.
On the other hand, Trevor Phillips from Grand Theft Auto V was one of the first openly homosexual characters in a video game.
Physical and mental abuse was a daily occurrence in Trevor’s life, just as it was for most of his contemporaries. As a result of this, he evolved into an aggressive guy.
Despite this, he nevertheless comes clean to Michel and Franklin about the fact that he does not consider himself heterosexual.

3. Ellie (The Last of Us)
It is remarkable how many people who played the first edition of The Last of Us assumed that the addition of Ellie as an LGBT character in the second half of the game was a case of forced inclusion.
However, suppose you played the downloadable content for this fantastic video game, Left Behind.
In that case, you may have found the love story between Ellie and her closest friend, Riley, entertaining.
Despite the sad love story, you find out why the heroine was so willing to give up her life to discover a cure for the zombie virus via the memories she has throughout the story.
In her recollections, she can witness how the zombies bit both of them a few seconds after Riley and Ellie kiss to declare their love for one another.
Riley transforms, but Ellie does not; consequently, Ellie is forced to murder Riley to fulfill Riley’s request that she not become one of those monsters.
Even though Riley is Ellie’s first love, throughout the second portion of the game, she falls in love with Dina.
4. Lena “Tracer” Oxton (Overwatch)
Okay, within the context of the video game, this particular character may not have established his sexual orientation; nonetheless, since Tracer is one of the most significant characters for Blizzard, it would be inappropriate not to discuss him.
Because of this, many people applauded the firm when it was revealed via the digital comic that she was a member of the LGBT community.
They praised the company for not being afraid to include gender-diverse characters in its stories.
Even though Tracer’s sexual orientation was revealed outside of the Overwatch video game, it was undoubtedly one of the examples that received the most media attention.

We can take heart from the fact that Krem, a character from Dragon Age: Inquisition, is likely the most compelling example of how this can be done well.
Krem is a transgender man who serves as the second in command of a company of mercenaries commanded by Iron Bull. Krem’s gender identity is fluid.
The fact that this is never brought up as a point of criticism or discussion and that everything associated with his gender identification is addressed naturally makes me want to weep tears of pleasure.
When developing Krem, Bioware took extra precautions and enlisted the collective’s members’ help to produce one of the most recognizable trans characters that have ever been included in a video game.
And it goes without saying that they were successful.
7. Gibraltar and Bloodhound (Apex Legends)
Apex Legends is one of the most diversified casts of heroes seen in a video game in a considerable amount of time.
Overwatch developer Respawn Entertainment has decided to include the game’s characters.
And yeah, we are not just talking about his skills and attractiveness; we are also referring to his racial and sexual diversity.
Gibraltar, a character who is openly homosexual, and Bloodhound, a character who identifies as non-binary, stand out as the most famous examples.
When accurately depicting people of varied gender identities, having LGBTQ characters playable in a game with millions of players is a big step forward.
8. Athena and Janey Springs (Borderlands)
The video game Borderlands is an exhilarating first-person shooter that stands out for its mastery of balancing delectable comedy with an engrossing ambiance, fascinating narrative, and RPG aspects within the context of a post-apocalyptic setting.
During the prologue, players will, if they are fortunate, get further insight into the lives of Athena and Janey Springs.
You’ll notice that both of them flirt with one another during many campaigns.
They will steal glances at one another, only heightening their mutual interest.
During one of the conversation options in Tales from the Borderlands, the nature of their relationship is revealed to the player when both gay video game characters express the desire to marry soon.
9. Neeko (League of Legends)
In the history of the popular video game League of Legends, Neeko was the first character to come out as a lesbian.
Her narrative describes how she fell in love with another female character called Nidalee and how their relationship developed over time.
They traveled through the wilderness together for a considerable time; nevertheless, Nidalee would not agree to join her in joining a tribe, which crushed her heart.
This is another great addition to our list of gay video game characters.
10. Kung Jin (Mortal Kombat)
Mortal Kombat is one of the tales that will leave you in stitches since it is one of the most popular fighting video games of recent years and one of the funniest.
On the other hand, if you haven’t been paying careful attention, likely, you aren’t familiar with the narrative of Kung Jin, one of the gay video game characters, and the monk and thief that was introduced to the story and is connected to Kung Lao.
In one of the scenes, Kung Jin has a conversation with Raiden about the responsibilities of becoming a monk.
Kung Jin discusses the challenges he would experience due to his sexual orientation in this conversation.
