These are some of the best PlayStation VR games. At the end of 2016, they released the PlayStation VR headset. It had a shaky start, with several mediocre to poor games and a hefty price tag.
However, the quality and amount of titles in its library have substantially improved in recent years, and the headgear has never been more affordable.
Sony’s first VR headset had a difficult six years, but it has hopefully laid a solid foundation for the impending PSVR2.
If you’re interested in trying out PlayStation VR but don’t want to wait for the next version, here are the games you should play right now.
If you have a PSVR, all you have to do now is plug it into your PS4 – or, with an adapter, your PS5 – and start playing. Virtual reality gaming has a fun learning curve, but it’s a great experience once you get it.
If you’re looking for new experiences, we’ve compiled a selection of the top PSVR games. You’ll also come across several games that you may not know are available in virtual reality.
Let’s go; here are some of the best PlayStation VR games. Please read on.
Dreams
Dreams have a variety of unique and fascinating games to check out if you want to explore a wide range of genres and ideas within VR.
The dream is a platform created by Media Molecule that allows players to build games or other projects using DreamShaping mode.
The site features a wide range of fantastic experiences, Elden Ring fan art, and virtual reality games. While Dreams may not contain a 40-hour masterpiece.
The variety of games offered might engross you in your headphones for hours. Dreams will contain something for everyone, from stunning fan-made Sonic games to Jak and Daxter remakes.
SuperHot VR
Superhot may appear to newcomers as a primary first-person shooter. Yet it hides one of the best gaming concepts in recent memory.
Enemies and time only advance when you do, allowing you to analyze your surroundings and strategize your way through each level.
The game was a hit, and it got even better when it was published for VR not long after it was released. Superhot VR may be the closest you’ll feel like Neo in The Matrix.
Also, the gameplay is intense, and you may find yourself gasping for air in between levels. Every time you turn your head to look around.
You may put yourself in danger, but nothing beats the sense of single-handedly defeating twenty foes in a room, which only Superhot VR can deliver. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
Stop what you’re doing, go to your PS4, and get Astro Bot: Rescue Mission if you own a PlayStation VR headset (which, given you’re reading this, we’re presuming you do). Astro Bot: Rescue Mission isn’t just a fantastic VR platformer; it’s also an excellent platformer.
Furthermore, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is full of innovation we’ve expected from Nintendo’s Mario series. It uses the VR format with such abandon that it makes other efforts look sluggish.
It’s unlike anything you’ve ever played before, weaving levels around the player and using the scale to disarm and delight your expectations, making it one of the best PlayStation VR games available.
Arizona Sunshine
Arizona Sunshine, which combines a bit of humor with a whole bunch of zombies, proves that Resident Evil 7 isn’t the only amazing VR zombie game.
The game immerses players in the arid Southwest of the United States, a zombie-infested region. However, it’s lonely out there, but there’s hope on the horizon in the form of non-infected humanity.
Furthermore, Arizona Sunshine puts you against various zombies, some harder than others. And provides you with a range of weaponry to assist you in defeating them.
There’s a co-op campaign available and a multiplayer Horde mode. For fans of the undead, this is a must-have PSVR title.
Battlezone
If you’re under 40, the original Battlezone may have slipped your mind – Atari’s 1980 arcade game doesn’t have the same iconic reputation as Pong.
Nevertheless, it is widely regarded as the first VR game, and this is why British developer Rebellion purchased the rights from Atari to adapt it for modern VR devices.
As a result, we have one of the best VR experiences we’ve ever experienced. The gameplay is enjoyable (imagine a future spin on World of Tanks).
But the game’s overall enjoyment is mainly due to the stunning yet simplistic aesthetics. Offline campaigns and online multiplayer are the two main modes available.
While we didn’t have a chance to test it out with a group of friends online, the offline campaign mode appears to be well-developed.
There are a lot of tanks to choose from and unlock. And while the gameplay might get a little repetitive at times, it’s plenty to keep you engrossed for a few hours.
Furthermore, many VR games aim to be as realistic as possible. Battlezone’s Tron-like gaming environment is immensely engaging, and it’s also one of the few titles on the platform that you’ll be able to play with your pals thanks to cooperative play. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Thumper
The rhythm game genre isn’t as popular as it once was, but thankfully, virtual reality has given it new life on its platform.
The video game Thumper was one of the first games to combine mesmerizing beats with fantastic gameplay, and it paved the way for following games like Beat Saber.
Moreover, thumper’s premise is straightforward: guide a beetle through terrifying levels while avoiding obstacles and killing bosses.
To smash, slide, and jump to Brian Gibson’s background music beat. You’ll need to press buttons (bassist for noise-rock band Lightning Bolt). Thumper’s fascinating sights and otherworldly design will instantly draw you into its realm.
No Man’s Sky
A few games have had the same trajectory as No Man’s Sky, aside from Final Fantasy XIV. When it was first published in 2016, critics and fans were upset when the developers failed to incorporate the features promised before release.
On the other hand, Hello Games has worked to improve the game and restore its reputation over the years with free upgrades, including a VR option in 2019.
No Man’s Sky provides a lot of stuff worth investigating if you’re searching for a unique VR game to devote your time in.
You can pass the time by traveling space, gliding between worlds, and meeting new alien races. Alternatively, you may settle on a mysterious planet to investigate its inhabitants or construct a new home.
No Man’s Sky is one of the most intriguing games of this age. And it’s even better in VR.
Blood And Truth
Have you ever wished to be a part of a Guy Ritchie film? Move over, Jason Statham, because you’ll be starring in a chaotic and funny drama involving criminals, epic vehicle chases, and deception in the PSVR exclusive Blood and Truth.
The collection of PSVR-exclusive games is small, but titles like Blood and Truth show why it’s worth checking out. The campaign is only about six hours long, yet you’ll face enormous shootouts and surprise events as you move between distinct scenarios as Ryan Marks.
Also, it’s like re-watching your favorite action movie from the 1990s: it’s a game worth playing repeatedly. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Resident Evil VII
Want to play one of the most horrifying VR games while learning about the platform’s capabilities? If that’s the case, Resident Evil VII is your game.
You’d think a mainline entry in this long-running series would have a VR experience thrown on, right? The answer is the polar opposite.
You created both modes at the same time. While the story remains the same, VR drastically alters the gameplay. Also, you may now see things from different angles and perspectives by looking around corners.
If you think video games aren’t as scary as they used to be, Resident Evil VII in VR may have you trembling in your headset after the game’s eerie first hours.
Beat Saber
You can talk about the best PSVR games with Beat Saber. Successor to the throne of rhythm games and, without a doubt, the best game in the category since Guitar Hero.
That may sound like a lot of praise, but Beat Saber is the best thing that ever happened to virtual reality. Also, beat Saber is a game where you use sabers to slash blocks to the beat of the music.
The problem is that the blocks come at you quickly. And there are invisible walls that you must duck under or avoid.
Also, while some games on our list may have you exploring a new continent or using your deduction skills to solve a mystery, Beat Saber is a high-intensity workout that rivals any cardio workout we’ve ever done. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Borderlands 2 VR
First-person shooting meets Diablo-style loot hunting in the Borderlands games. And the excellent Borderlands 2 VR now adds virtual reality action to the mix.
Also, Borderlands 2 in VR, a sci-fi treasure hunter in a Mad Max universe, brings the hectic action of the original games to a whole new level by immersing you directly in the middle of its colorfully violent world.
You’ll amass a plethora of unusual weaponry, combat waves of weird adversaries, and travel across a region as bizarre as its shooting action.
What could have been a horrific puke-fest in virtual reality has been expertly adapted here. Also, whether using a DualShock controller or Move wands, the game provides plenty of customization choices. Ranging from full movement to teleportation and peripheral vision blurring.
Farpoint
In this PSVR exclusive, you’ll shoot your way through exotic locations in stunning VR, using Sony’s gun controller to realistically aim at your extraterrestrial adversaries.
You can dodge and hide behind cover to evade incoming fire while the game follows a pretty linear path, and you are free to explore the stages at your leisure.
Despite providing you complete control over your character’s movement, Farpoint manages to sidestep the motion sickness problems that have afflicted comparable games.
Furthermore, Farpoint was a lot of fun. Though the single-player story mode is only six or so hours long, the multiplayer mode and the pinpoint accuracy of the visceral gunplay add to the game’s replayability.
Gran Turismo Sport
Gran Turismo Sport, the franchise’s maiden debut on the PlayStation 4, is apt in that it embraces that most immersive of console accessories — the PlayStation VR headset.
Before putting them out on the track for head-to-head races, you’ll get behind the wheel of a wide range of gorgeously rendered automobiles, each modeled exactly as they seem in real life.
Furthermore, the VR feature, while a sidekick to the superb core Gran Turismo Sport game, has been thoughtfully created, with a subtle in-game HUD, handy mirrors, and some well-sewn racing gloves sitting over your digital hands.
It adds to the allure of a drool-worthy racer and is a must-have for PSVR owners. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Hitman 3
IO Interactive’s most recent Hitman trilogy came to a close with the release of Hitman 3 in early 2021. The series was known for having some of the best sandboxes in the stealth-action genre, and the third installment had some of the most innovative and dense levels in the franchise’s history.
Also, it was a pleasant surprise to many when the creators announced that you would release a VR mode alongside Hitman 3 on PlayStation. You may now play all three games in first-person mode, allowing you to approach levels in new ways.
Also, you may either take it seriously and act like an actual secret agent, or you can just run around with a gigantic fish in your hand, escaping security and looking for new places to hide in.
Tetris Effect
Tetris had a fantastic year in 2018. Also, Tetris 99, a game inspired by the battle royale genre that is still only available to Nintendo Switch Online members, was released that year.
Also, it may sound strange, but it works wonders. They launched the Tetris Effect near the end of the same year, and it completely blew everyone’s expectations and minds.
It’s fantastic on its own, but seeing it in virtual reality is a whole new level of immersion. Each level has its theme and tune, and as you clear lines of blocks, the atmosphere becomes increasingly joyful.
Furthermore, the soundtrack includes mainstream songs and upbeat instrumentals, and the levels will help you concentrate on getting that high score you’ve always wanted. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
I Expect You To Die
I Expect You to Die is a superb film that will make you feel like a suave Cold War-era spy. Like James Bond, played by Sean Connery or Roger Moore rather than Daniel Craig.
Also, the game puts you in the shoes of a secret agent tasked with getting yourself out of extremely dangerous situations while remaining seated.
It makes excellent use of virtual reality is you can pick up and play with objects all over your environment. Regardless of whether or not doing so helps you fulfill your goal.
There are multiple levels (with the possibility of the developer adding more in the future, as has already been done), immersing you in a different atmosphere, similar to an escape room.
Iron Man VR
Have you ever wished to slip into career narcissist Tony Stark’s plush loafers? Maybe not, but if you’ve seen any Marvel film, you’ve probably longed to see Tony Stark cut through the skies in his Iron Man armor, which Iron Man VR delivers on with aplomb.
It’s not just a gimmicky sandbox; it’s a full-fledged, unexpectedly complex narrative adventure with plenty of twists and turns.
Aside from the dramatic tale, Iron Man VR has thrilling and replayable battle areas and a fun control mechanism that involves flicking your wrists to switch between rockets and repulsors. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Keep Talking, And Nobody Explodes
On paper, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes doesn’t sound like fun. While one player puts on a headset to examine a highly complex bomb in a bland room, the other read a dense instruction booklet on which wires to cut and buttons to press to advance to the next stage.
However, beneath its ostensibly uninteresting façade lurks a very entertaining exercise in collaboration, communication, and occasionally pure luck as you make last-minute decisions to prevent a bomb from detonating.
Moss
Moss tells the story of Quill, a young mouse on a quest to save her nation. Also, each section of the game is divided into many mini-dioramas that look great in VR.
You play as The Reader, a character that must manipulate things and distract foes for Quill to complete her quest.
Moss: Book II continues up just where the first game leaves off, and it’s even better than the previous game in terms of plot and fighting.
Quill will meet new allies and face even more dangerous foes, but she will be armed with more weapons this time.
Both games look stunning in VR and present one of the best storylines available on the device. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Rez Infinite
Rez Infinite incorporates virtual reality head tracking, placing you at the center of its Tron-inspired wireframe soundscapes.
Also, Rez Infinite has always been a game that allows you to “get in the zone,” but with the addition of VR head tracking. It becomes nearly mesmerizing, and you’re thoroughly involved in the futuristic terrain as it zips past your floating avatar.
Thanks to an excellent, throbbing trance soundtrack that builds to a thundering crescendo as you blast down polygonal adversaries.
Furthermore, it’s easy to lose touch with reality while playing Rez Infinite. And it’ll be difficult to stop yourself from dancing along to the game grooves your shots make. Thanks to a crazy sense of speed and spot-on head-tracking enemy targeting.
Falcon Age
Falcon Age is a game about using your wits, tools, and an adorable bird buddy to combat injustice. It’s also a game about collecting hats and toys because you adore your birdie and want to see how they would appear as a tiny cowboy.
Moreover, the game may be played in and out of virtual reality, but for the greatest experience, keep your headset securely in place and your Move controllers at the ready.
In Falcon Age, you spend your time traveling from your hometown to numerous areas that robots have colonized.
Your falcon can distract foes, allowing you to finish the job with your limited arsenal of weapons. This is one of the best PlayStation VR games.
Firewall Zero Hour
Firewall Zero Hour is the best online multiplayer shooter on PlayStation VR (opens in new tab). There isn’t a single better online multiplayer game on PlayStation VR.
Imagine Rainbow Six Siege with a lot less wall-exploding and more feeling like you’re there. Military fans will shriek with glee as they sight down their authentic-looking weaponry with a PSVR Aim Controller.
While, more casual players will be content with a regular old DualShock 4, which will suffice. You’ll get to experience tense, tactical contests that foster communication and teamwork in any case.
Star Wars Squadrons
Motive Studios’ Star Wars: Squadrons is a virtual reality game that will satisfy many people’s childhood desires.
This ship-to-ship combat flight simulator is great for VR because it lets you play as Rebel and Imperial pilots.
Furthermore, the game features a single-player story and multiplayer options. And while it isn’t a VR-exclusive title, using a VR headset only adds to the thrill of flying around in an X-Wing or a TIE Fighter through space.
