Dbanj was born in Zaria but is originally from Shagari in the south western region of Nigeria in Ogun State.

The profession of the father of Dbanj meant that he will be traveling a lot from place to place according to wherever military missions take his father.

He was initially registered at the Nigerian military school in order to take after his father.
However, the idea did not sit well with Dbanj and later after 3 years, he dropped out of the school.

During his time at the Nigerian military school, Dbanj was part of the drum band of the army, further confirming his interest in music from so young.

After leaving the military school, he was admitted to the navy secondary school in Ogun State where he completed his secondary school education.

He was initially admitted to the University of Lagos where he was meant to study mechanical engineering but he dropped out of school due to incessant strikes and general inconsistencies of his schooling made him decide to withdraw. This was also part in a bid to focus more on his career in music.

After meeting Don jazzy in London in 2001, Don Jazzy noticed the musical talent of Dbanj. Both of them then agreed to return to Nigeria to set up their own record label which will later be renowned as the MO hits record label.

Under the label, Dbanj released his first album titled No Long Thing in 2005. It was made up of singles such as Tongolo which Dbanj later revealed was a single paid for by his mother. Tongolo put Dbanj on the Nigerian map and was widely known to be the next big thing in the Nigerian music industry.

Other hit singles from the album includes Koko which made him widely known as Kokomaster today. Throughout the album, he did collaborations with other future stars like Dare Art Alade and Ikechukwu.

He also received a huge sum as his song, Koko was used for campaign by the PDP during the general elections in 2007. Dbanj released his second album in 2006 and was also widely successful across the country with the most spectacular single, Why me?.

While still under the MO hits record label which was made up of stars in the music industry like Wande Coal, Dr Sid, D’prince and so on. This allowed him feature in their albums like Curriculum Vitae which had hit songs like Booty call, Be close to you and others. He also featured in the hit song Wind am well by Ikechukwu in 2008.

His third album was released in 2008 and was full of hit songs like Gbona feli feli, Olorun maje and the Entertainer. Later in 2011, Dbanj was signed by Kanye West into the GOOD Music record label and declared celebrations on his Twitter page. Five years later, his contract with the GOOD music record label expired and he was subsequently released.

With rumors flying around about Dbanj departure from the MO hits record label, Don jazzy took took to his Twitter handle to declare the heartbreaking news that Dbanj had left. By the end of 2012, Dbanj was signed to a contract with Sony.

He then released another hit single titled ‘Bother you’ in 2013 through his record label DKM media. He then introduced the stars under his record label to the public which included his brother Kayswitch, Tonto Dikeh and the Kriss brothers. His next album that followed was titled King Don Come which featured international artists like Gucci Mane, Rick Ross.

The most notable hit of the single was Oliver Twist which was exponentially successful. Dbanj has appeared in a lot of concerts throughout his career including Fela’s shrine.

Dbanj got married to his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow in 2016 in a secret wedding and declared he had a son named Daniel III who was born on the 19th September, 2019. The new was confirmed by Dbanj on the 20th of October, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California.
