To make matters worse, he finds himself having to work for his nemesis to keep them afloat financially. The lead character, Rush Williams, is played by Romany Malco (The 40-Year Old Virgin).

Third, on my list of black family movies on NetFlix is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom- which is a fantastic film. It’s set in Chicago in 1927 and features the legendary singer, songwriter, and actress Ma Rainey (played by Violas Davis).

Ma Rainey was one of the earliest African-American professional blues singers and significantly influenced artists like Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday.

This movie tells her story through music and drama. The film is based on August Wilson’s play of the same name. The top cast also Incudes the late Chadwick Boseman.

In this film, Dolemite is a pimp who raps. He also has Kung Fu skills. Dolemite also has an old friend named J.J., who wants to be a star but can’t seem to find his niche—that is, until he decides he wants to be a rapper too!

This movie is rated R for violence and language; it was initially rated X due to its explicit content (including full-frontal male nudity).

See You Yesterday (2019)

This is the story of two brothers trying to get by in NYC. They live in a rundown apartment, their father is dead, and they have no money.

The older brother makes ends meet by dealing drugs while the younger brother struggles to graduate high school. When he fails a test, his girlfriend decides that they can’t continue seeing each other because it would look bad for her in school if it got out that she was dating someone who was failing classes.

Furthermore, One night at dinner, the older brother’s girlfriend tells him she needs to break up with him but she wants to try one last thing before ending things: an experiment where they don’t contact each other for 24 hours so she can see how long it takes for him to realize how good he has it with her.

The next day we see them both doing their own thing: one goes shopping at Bloomingdale’s while another plays basketball alone outside of Madison Square Garden (MSG).

At some point during this day, they both decide that they need some time away from each other, so they choose to spend some time at home – but when they arrive, there’s something strange going on…

Furthermore, When Django runs into Calvin Candie (DiCaprio), a charming but ruthless plantation owner who owns Broomhilda von Shaft (Washington); well…you can probably figure out what happens next!

Miss Virginia (2019)

Miss Virginia by Uzo Aduba is a heartfelt drama about a struggling single mother fighting to give her son a good education.

When Virginia learns that her son’s school district is failing him because his father has been wrongly sent to prison and denied primary education, she decides to take on the system with some help from her friends.
