The Tecno Phantom series is one of the flagship series that the company really takes time to make and push.
Most times it serves as the basis for new designs across the brand before successors are named.
The Tecno Phantom 9 is the successor of the Tecno Phantom 8 and here we take a look at upgrades and features this smartphone offers.
Design and Display
Much has changed since the Phantom 8 was released and the Phantom 9 is a great improvement over its predecessor. The Phantom 8 had large bezels while the Phantom 9 comes with a beautiful dot notch and slim bezels.
The dual-LED front flash, speaker, other sensors occupy the slim space at the top of the 6.4 inch display panel. The slim bezel at the bottom is likely there for structural integrity.
The back of the Phantom 9 houses the vertical triple camera cut out alongside the LED spot. The Phantom label follows and the TECNO brand label is at the bottom left. No fingerprint sensor here as it has been moved to the front.
There is a dedicated Google Assistant button at the side, the external speakers, mic and USB port are located at the base of the phone. The back has a polycarbonate gradient design.
On to the display, there is a 6.4 inch AMOLED display that supports in-display fingerprint technology. The AMOLED brings with it power conservation and high contrast.
The display features 1080 x 2340 pixels resolutions, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an over 86% screen-to-body ratio. The phone uses the PowerVR GE8320 graphics processing unit clocked at 680GHz. Screen protection is handled by the Gorilla Glass 3.
Camera Specifications
The camera department of the Tecno Phantom 9 boasts some great specs. The selfie camera packs a 32MP sensor with dual LED flash for dome great shots. The camera is capable of recording 1080 pixels at 30 fps.
The rear camera comes with a triple-lens shooter. There is the 16 MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture, the 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and the 2 MP, f/2.8 depth sensor. Also, there is a quad LED flash that aids low light shots.
There is added software support from Tecno’s OS kin built to make photography exciting.
Hardware and Memory
Tecno decided to use the Helio P35 chipset in the Phantom as against the Helio P25 chip on Phantom 8. This is quite confusing though as the P25 has better performance (2.6GHz CPU, 1GHz GPU) when compared to the Helio P35.
The MediaTek Helio P35 chip has 8 Cortex A53 cores clocked to get a maximum speed of 2.3GHz. This is sufficient enough for gaming.
In the RAM department, there is 6 GB of RAM space for the most efficient multitasking. Also, you get 128GB of internal storage to handle your files. In case you need more space, there is a dedicated memory slot that supports microSD up 1 terabyte.
Software and Battery
The Tecno Phantom 9 utilizes the HiOS 5.0 operating system based on the Android 9 Pie. This comes with software features that make the user experience good
In the battery department, you get a 3500 mAH battery that should last a day and no mention of fast charge.
