The Tecno Camon 12 series ushers in a new Cam Era as the new generation of the Camon series takes over from the Camon 11.
The Camon 12 Air is the younger sibling of the Tecno Camon 12 Pro and Tecno Camon 12 smartphones.
Design and Display
At first look, the most visible change in the Camon 12 Air design is the lack of a notch. Unlike the Camon 12 Pro and Camon 12 smartphones, Tecno decided to go for the keyhole (hole-in screen, punch-hole, Dot-In) display design. The keyhole camera is located at the top left of the device.
This design similar to the one on their sister company’s Infinix S5 series. Maybe Tecno is hoping to retain fans who may have opted for Infinix due to the fresh design.
Also, the design approach ensures that there is plenty of room for the screen with only the call speaker and a few sensors occupying the tiny top bezels. It also will impress notch screen haters.
Moving to the back of the phone, you have a vertical triple camera set up and a spare room for LED flash. The Camon label follows in the same manner and the Tecno Label is located at the bottom felt. The speakers, USB port and mic are located at the base.
Moving to the display section, there is a 6.55 inch IPS display with over 85% screen to body ratio and 720*1600 resolution. The graphics processing unit is manned by the Imagination Technologies PowerVR GE8320 chip with speed clocked at 650MHz.
Camera Specifications
Being a cam-centric smartphone series, the Tecno Camon 12 Air though toned down still pulls its weight in its division.
The Punch Hole camera dons an 8MP lens that still offers decent photography and video recording. The camera relies on screen flash for low light environments.
On tho the rear cameras, there is a 16MP main shooter, + 2MP depth sensor + 5MP ultra wide lens Triple Rear Camera with Quad Flash. The camera functions and features are boosted by software.
Hardware and Memory Specifications
Sitting at the helm of affairs is the MediaTek MT6762M Helio A22 Processor. The processor has four (4) Cortex A53 cores all clocked to reach a maximum speed of 2.0GHz.
Supporting the processor is 3 GB of RAM space for efficient multitasking on apps. This should ensure that apps like Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, Telegram and the rest do not lag.
For file storage, you get 32Gb of storage space that can be expanded to about 128GB using a MicroSD flash.
Battery and Software
There is a 4000 mAh battery to provide power juice on the Camon 12 Air. The smartphone runs on Android 9.0 under the latest HiOS 5.5 skin.
The HiOS usually has additional software boosts like WhatsApp mode, General Game Mode (PUBG mode), one hand mode, etc. The dedicated game mode means this phone should be able to handle PUBG without much stress.
