Resolving MacOS Mojave Freezes and Unresponsiveness

MacOS Mojave

A Mac rarely becomes unresponsive or experience a freeze, and in those instances when it does, it can be very discouraging and uncomfortable to watch.

The macOS Mojave update which has been associated with a lot of cool features also presents some problems to Mac users especially the issue of rapid battery drain.

Also, there have been reports of computers freezing during login attempts from a large number of Mac users.

Most users are at a loss of what to do whenever this issue arises or when the system behaves oddly. This article will help you to lay these issues to rest and then equip you with useful tips to get you out of a rut as soon as possible.

1. Try booting your Mac in Safe Mode if you ever noticed that the system is becoming unresponsive to a normal boot mode.

This approach is one of the most comfortable troubleshooting means, and the steps you would follow are as follows:

  • First, you have to turn off your Mac.
  • Then power it up and as soon as the computer is powered on (just before the full boot sequence is initiated or right after the startup sound comes up) then go ahead to press and hold the SHIFT key.
  • As soon as you see the login screen, release your hand from the SHIFT key.

Note: The safe mode startup process is achieved with the use of the shift key, and there is a chance that if your computer did not freeze in this safe mode, it would not freeze in a normal mode.

  • Restart your Mac and allow to boot normally (do not press the SHIFT key.)

2. Try the MacOS Recovery

This process should be your next call if you ever attempted the safe mode and it was unable to fix the problem. The steps to follow are:

  • Turn off your computer
  • Turn on your Mac then press and hold the Command + R keys together. Release the keys as soon as the Apple logo pops up. The “MacOS utilities” window comes up after this.
  • Choose Disk Utility
  • Choose “Show All Devices” after selecting the View Option.
  • Click the First Aid button and then click Run.

After completing the MacOS recovery process, restart the Computer normally, and the problem should be fixed by now.

3. Do you experience a system freeze just after you have login successfully?

Some system applications are responsible for this discomfort as specific applications run in the background and when these apps are unresponsive, they will result in a slower system and the occasional freezes. These apps can be closed to solve the problem at hand.

4. Reinstall your MacOS

This process should be your last resort when other processes have failed. The steps to reinstall your macOS are outlined below:

  • Turn off your computer
  • Turn your computer back on and then press and hold the Command + R keys together and then release the keys as soon as the Apple logo appears. The “MacOS Utilities” window comes up after this.
  • Choose the “Reinstall MacOS” option and follow the instruction.

We hope that you find these tips useful and hope it will help to resolve all system issues at your first trail so you can get back to more productive work.
