Have you ever threw and turned at night wishing your bed was climate controlled? That never-ending cycle of throwing off the covers and getting too cold, crawling back under them like a scolded puppy and repeating. Well, thanks to a new smart mattress from Eight Sleep, that annoyance should be a thing of the past.
It’s the latest introduction in a line of climate control devices from Eight, who released a smart mattress cover and another smart mattress that let sleepyheads adjust surface temperatures individually on both sides of the bed.
This latest addition, The Pod, takes its concept from the previous and adds AI, with a smart temperature control mode that will change the temperature as you sleep so that you can have the best climate to relax in.
This means that you won’t have to wake up in the middle of the night freezing or sweating from being too warm, or sleeping in because your bed is too warm or too comfortable when your alarm goes off.
The Pod also reacts to your body, by using a series of biofeedback sensors to gauge how it should adjust the temperature of the mattress while you sleep.
Insomniacs should also benefit from The Pod cooling down at bedtime, letting you drift off naturally without chemicals aids.
The temperature can adjust to anywhere from 55f to 115f, giving a genuinely personalised sleep environment that’s designed to provide you with the best sleep.

Anyone who has had a new baby in the household knows the value of a good night’s sleep.
The Pod could give you the best chance of success, although it cannot do anything about the snoring or having to wake you up to feed at around 3 am.
Perhaps the “thermal alarm” that cools the bed a few minutes before your alarm could also be used to ease the pain of getting up in the middle of the night.
The whole system is being controlled by The Hub, a Wi-Fi that is connected to the computer system that accommodates the smarts and also the water tank that The Pod uses to change the mattress’ temperature.
The Hub also handles sleep and vital signs tracking, so you can build up a picture of how well the thermal controls affects your sleep.
It’s also connectable to other smart home staples like Alexa and Philips Hue light bulbs. It sounds like you can build up a routine where your home devices are triggered by your bed, rather than your alarm.
Sounds almost civilised to me.
The Pod is currently available for preorder, with price starting at $1,995, for a full bed and $2,195, for a queen size. Eight Sleep says it will begin shipping in April.
