The world of video games is full of interesting characters that players can interact with throughout the game.
Sometimes, these characters will impact you so much that they become some of your favorite personalities in any medium.
In this article, we’ll look at retro video game characters who are as memorable as wickedly cool.
We’ve collected a few lists of retro video game characters;
Alex (Oxenfree)
ALEX is the main character of OXENFREE, a game about a group of teens who go to an island for a birthday party and end up haunted by ghosts.
She’s a teenage girl who has just turned 16 and is on the cusp of adulthood.
As a member of the mayor’s family, she’s used to being in charge (and taking orders), but she also has her flaws: she can be impulsive and stubborn sometimes.
Alex is also very close with NATE, one of the other main characters in OXENFREE.
The two grew up together as best friends, living right next door—NATE even helped ALEX build her tree house!
Allie (Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch)
Allie is a young girl who is the main character of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
She has a strong sense of justice and always tries to do the right thing. Allie is also very brave, which makes her an ideal candidate for becoming a wizard.
When you meet Allie for the first time in your game, she’ll be accompanied by her friend/pet cat, Drippy, who helps her throughout their journey together.
Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn)
Aloy is an incredible character. She’s a hunter in a post-apocalyptic world, but she’s not just any hunter—she’s a machine hunter. Wait, what? She hunts machines… with her bow and arrow. Yes! That makes her one of the best RPG characters in recent memory.
Aloy is also a woman, which is pretty cool for video games (and life). Womanhood doesn’t define Aloy as much as her being a great character does, but it’s still worth mentioning that she’s both female AND kick-ass at being badass!
Batman And The Joker (Arkham Series)
Batman and the Joker are a classic example of an iconic video game duo. In the Batman: Arkham series, both characters are the main characters but play different roles. This is another great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
The Joker is Batman’s greatest enemy and has been since their first appearance in D.C. Comics together in 1940.
Their complex relationship changes over time depending on what comics you read or which video game you play.
The best way to describe this complicated relationship is to say it’s like Romeo and Juliet (the play) meets Fight Club (the book).
The Bloody Baron (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)
The Bloody Baron is a character in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He was known for his cruelty and sadism. He was Anna Henrietta’s father and Anna Henrietta’s husband, who were both killed in the war against Nilfgaard during their childhood.
Years later, he returned to his home town where he became an alcoholic and continued to torture people until Geralt found him drunk on wine on the floor (a nod to his former self) at Crow’s Perch castle.
It turns out that he wanted nothing more than for someone else to take over being king so that he didn’t have to deal with it anymore, even if it meant giving up his title as baron or becoming a peasant again if need be.
After being convinced by Geralt, that not only would they get rid of Radovid, but they would also help fight against Eredin when necessary, Vesemir agrees with him but just before leaving says, “We’ll see how long I keep my promise”.
After becoming sober again, he permitted you (if asked) to visit Emhyr when needed, which could lead to other quests such as finding out about Ciri’s whereabouts or helping Yennefer escape prison in Novigrad City.
Callie And Marie, The Squid Sisters (Splatoon Series)
Callie and Marie are the hosts of Inkopolis News, Splatfest, and Off the Hook, a radio program about Splatoon. They are also the vocal duo that sings all of the songs on this list.
Callie’s color is orange, while Marie’s color is pink. This is a great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
They have been friends since they were young, but they did not become famous until they started their careers as pop stars in Inkopolis after winning a local singing competition with their first hit single, “Calamari Incantation.”
Catherine De Medici (Civilization 6)
As the queen of France, Catherine de Medici was a powerful leader who used her influence to further her country. She’s ruthless, cold-blooded, and cruel—and that’s just in her personal life!
In the game, you’ll have to make some tough choices as queen: should you side with the Catholic Church or the Protestants?
Should you pursue your own agenda or submit yourself completely to one party? You can’t please everyone all the time—but if there’s any chance at success on this unforgiving battlefield, it’ll be up to Catherine de Medici herself.
Clementine And Lee (The Walking Dead)
Clementine is one of the most endearing characters in video game history. She’s a young girl who grows up quickly and has to survive the world alone after her parents die.
Clementine isn’t your typical video game hero; she shows compassion and empathy, even when faced with life-or-death situations.
Clementine’s guardian in The Walking Dead is Lee Everett, a former college professor who got mixed up with some bad people before the outbreak occurred. He taught Clementine how to read, write and shoot (among other things).
They formed an intimate bond throughout their journey together as they traveled across Georgia in search of safety from hordes of zombies that wanted nothing more than human flesh.
The relationship between these two characters makes them both relatable—and it certainly makes us wish we could be their friends!
Danny Williams (FIFA Series)
Danny Williams is a fictional footballer who is the lead character in the FIFA series of video games. He is the first black footballer to appear in the FIFA series.
In 1999, Danny Williams was born as a baby boy at home in London after his mother had twins with her husband, Richard Williams.
He grew up playing football with his brother, Jody, who became a professional footballer at Arsenal, while Danny played for West Ham United at age 17 before he moved up north to play for Newcastle United,
where he remained until he retired at age 24 due to injury issues that prevented him from playing anymore professionally after 20 years worth of injuries accumulated over time, causing him much pain while trying not just physical but mental stress too,
which led him down paths like alcoholism and drug addiction. Luckily, his brother Jody got him into rehab, so now, instead of being addicted, he lives happily ever after with his wife Jillian and two children – Jake (born 2001) and Mia (born 2003).
Delilah (Firewatch)
Delilah is the main antagonist of Firewatch and a fire lookout for the Shoshone National Forest. She refers to herself as the “lonely queen” of her lookout tower, living in isolation except for her supervisor Henry, with whom she communicates over walkie-talkies. This is a great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
Delilah is obsessed with nature and has perfected the art of making fires—which is why she’s a fire lookout in the first place.
In many ways, Delilah is beautiful: she loves nature and lives alone in a beautiful setting (her tower). But she’s also cruel: she frequently uses Henry on his walkie-talkie to make him feel guilty about their relationship status.
Delilah Copperspoon (Dishonored Series) Deliciously Wicked Delilah Copperspoon Begins
The Dishonored series’ main antagonist, Delilah Copperspoon, is many things: a witch, a puppet master, a spy, and a thief. She’s even a seductress who can manipulate the hearts and minds of men to get what she wants (like she does with Corvo in the first game).
But more than anything else—more than her magical prowess or her ability to manipulate others—Delilah is an evil murderer.
She starts as an agent for the Duke of Serkonos, but when he dies after being poisoned by his wife Antonia Chilworth (his lover), Delilah takes control of both fates by switching bodies with them.
Now “Antonia” becomes the new Duke, while “Antonia’s” body becomes host to all that evil power within Delilah. With it at her disposal, she begins manipulating people into doing whatever she wants via her magic:
Spying on them through mirrors; controlling them like puppets; poisoning guards so they’ll fall asleep during guard shifts; even killing people outright if they get too close to finding out what’s going on behind closed doors at Dunwall Tower or where Corvo Attano goes after he leaves his post as Royal Protector for Emily Kaldwin during Dishonored II’s events.
Dutch Van Der Linde (Red Dead Redemption Series)
Dutch Van der Linde is the leader of the gang that John Marston is a part of in Red Dead Redemption. He’s a cowboy, but he’s also a killer.
Dutch has no problem with killing people just because they’re in his way or if he doesn’t like them. At one point, Dutch even kills an innocent man who was just trying to protect someone else from getting hurt. This is a great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
However, despite being a killer, we can still see that Dutch has some good qualities about him as well: he loves his family and tries to do what’s best for them; he helps out everyone in the gang when they need it (even though sometimes those people are bad), and he cares about his friends so much that at one point in time during Red Dead Redemption 2 (the sequel),
there will be an instance where you have to choose between saving your friends or saving yourself from harm by doing something evil against someone else!
In other words—Dutch may not always make good decisions himself, but he does try hard not only as a father figure but also as a leader among all others who follow him blindly without question due to their respect for him being higher than any other person could ever achieve within their ranks – even though sometimes this might lead down paths which ultimately lead nowhere.”
Edér Teylecg (Pillars Of Eternity Series)
Edér Teylecg is a human fighter who joins the player’s party as a companion in Pillars of Eternity and is also one of the protagonists in the sequel. Edér is a member of Rauatai’s royal family and was exiled for trying to take down their corrupt monarchy.
He meets The Nameless One on his travels through Dyrwood, helping him overthrow Baldur’s Gate and stop his brother from destroying the world.
Edér returns in Pillars’ sequel Deadfire as captain of The Defiant—a ship crewed by former prisoners seeking redemption.
He’s joined by several other returning characters, including The Nameless One, Aloth (also an elf), Pallegina (an Inquisitor), Xoti (a priestess), and Sagan (a hunter).
Edith Finch (What Remains Of Edith Finch)
EDITH FINCH is the main character of WHAT REMAINS OF EDITH FINCH. She’s a detective who is investigating a murder, and the victim is her husband.
As the game progresses, you’ll learn more about their marriage and what they were like together. This will help explain why she wants to solve this case so much and why it’s so important for her to find out who killed him.
Elizabeth And Booker (Bioshock Infinite)
When you wake up in Columbia, a floating city that was once known as New York City, you’re greeted by Elizabeth. She’s a young woman who has been imprisoned in Columbia for her power to open tears in space and time—a powerful source of energy.
Booker is a former soldier hired to rescue her from her captivity. The pair must travel through different realities together if they want to escape Comstock’s grasp and return to their own world.
Ellie And Riley (The Last Of Us: Left Behind)
Ellie’s best friend, Riley, is a young girl who is infected with the cordyceps fungus. She’s not just “infected,” though—she’s immune to it, which means that she can spread the parasite to other humans and turn them into mindless zombies.
Ellie doesn’t trust Riley at first (understandably), but they team up and try to escape quarantine together. The game allows you to play as both Ellie and Riley during this period—Riley has a more straightforward story path while Ellie has some hidden collectibles only accessible by her.
Elodie (Long Live The Queen)
Elodie is the main character in the video game Long Live the Queen. She is a princess and heir to the throne, but she’s been kept away from courtly life for as long as she can remember.
The game takes place shortly before her coronation when Elodie learns that she must go on a quest to save her kingdom from destruction by an evil force called The Red Death.
Along with two friends, Lillian and Baron Samual, Elodie sets out on an adventure that will change everything about how she views herself and her world.
Emet-Selch (Final Fantasy 14)
EMET-SELCH is a scholar who specializes in ancient history. He is a kind man but can be stubborn at times. EMET was once an apprentice to the Master of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, HIDEO HAMAKAWA, but has since become one of their most trusted members.
EMET was born in Doman and studied at Sharlayan’s School of Historia under his mentor Hamakawa for several years before taking on his current position as leader of the Scions’ research efforts into historical events that occurred during or immediately preceding The Calamity (an event which caused much devastation).
Florence Yeoh (Florence)
You may not know her name, but Florence Yeoh has been in your life for years. She’s an actress, singer, and dancer who’s starred in some of your favorite movies.
If you live in Singapore, you might recognize her as the main character from The Little Nyonya — an award-winning 2008 T.V. series about Chinese immigrants to Malaya.
Suppose you watched the 2014 film The Wolf Of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio (or its 2015 sequel).
In that case, you might remember seeing a more mature-looking Florence playing Rosie Sampson—the wife of Jordon Belfort’s mentor Mark Hanna.
She was also nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Series Or Movie For Her Role As Mabel Cho Therese Tan In Crazy Rich Asians (2019).
Ghost (Destiny Series)
Ghost is a playable character in Destiny. He is a floating, blue, spherical robot that provides the player with assistance and commentary while they play. Nolan North provides the ghost’s voice and has a sarcastic sense of humor.
His creators shaped the ghost’s personality at Bungie Studios; when asked about his design, writer Luke Smith said he had always wanted to create an A.I. that was “partially your best friend.”
Glados (Portal 2)
GLaDOS is one of the most well-known video game antagonists of all time and also a great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
She’s a personality core, which is a computer program that Aperture Science created to bring life to its robotic test subjects.
GLaDOS was built with artificial intelligence (A.I.) chip that allows her to learn and develop her unique personality while remaining loyal to the company.
In other words: GLADOS is not a person; she’s just an A.I. program that has been programmed to think like one!
The voice actor who provides GLADOS’ eerie voice is Ellen McLain—a woman who has provided character voices for over 400 different video games since 1992!
It wasn’t until Portal 2 that this particular role became so iconic that it cemented itself as part of gaming history forevermore (sorry).
Goose (Untitled Goose Game)
Goose is a playable character in an unnamed game that features the Bird Army. Goose is a member of the flock, but he also serves as a general for the bird army.
His special ability is that he can fly, which makes it easier for him to get around than some of his fellow characters who have to walk on land or swim in the water.
Handsome Jack (Borderlands 2)
You may have heard of Handsome Jack before, but you probably don’t know that he’s also the main antagonist in Borderlands 2.
In fact, there are two Handsome Jacks: one from Borderlands and one from Borderlands 2 and subsequent games. Both are ruthless dictators who rule over Pandora with an iron fist (and a lot of guns).
The original Handsome Jack was actually a clone of himself created by his own company Hyperion, which explains why he looks exactly like the new version.
He first appears in Borderlands as a peripheral character who helps the player fight off bandits; in later games, he becomes much more important as both an ally and enemy to the protagonists.
Hannah (Her Story)
Hannah is a fictional character in the award-winning video game Her Story. In the game, you play as Hannah, looking into her husband’s disappearance. This is a great addition to our list of retro video game characters.
The story begins with Hannah describing how she discovered some videotapes while cleaning out her husband’s desk after his death. She’s trying to figure out what happened to him and why he disappeared.
Herschel Biggs (L.A. Noire)
In L.A. Noire, Herschel Biggs was Jack Kelso’s partner and an LAPD detective. He was killed by a car bomb planted by his wife, who then took her own life.
He is only seen for a short amount of time in-game, as you’re only partnered with him for a few minutes before his death occurs. This makes him one of only two characters to have no voice actor (the other being Morris Sullivan).
However, Robert Clotworthy voiced him anyway because he died so early on in the game without any dialogue, and there wasn’t enough time left to find someone else who could fill this role properly.
Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
Isabelle is a police officer and the main protagonist of the Animal Crossing series. Her name is a reference to St. Isabella of Angouleme, who was an important figure during the Hundred Years’ War in Europe.
Like many female characters with ties to religion or royalty (or both), Isabelle has blonde hair and blue eyes—both traits that are often associated with European nobility.
While most characters in Animal Crossing have never been given a birthdate, Isabelle can be assumed to be around 20 years old based on her age being revealed in New Leaf’s Welcome amiibo update.
Jack And Marguerite Baker (Resident Evil 7)
If you’ve played Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, then you know Jack and Marguerite Baker. They are the game’s main protagonists and owners of a plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana.
They have been missing their daughter Zoe for quite some time now due to an accident during the storm. You play as Ethan Winters, who tries to find his wife Mia and ends up at the Baker house, where we meet our dear couple.
They take care of each other since they lost their only child years before the events of RE7. This is why they welcome Ethan into their home so quickly when he comes knocking on their door looking for shelter from the storm outside (and perhaps something else).
Jane Shepard (Mass Effect Series)
Jane Shepard is the protagonist of Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3. She is a soldier, a Spectre, and a mother. Jennifer Hale voiced her in all three games.
Shepard is also human (although not your average one) but has undergone extensive treatment to become an enhanced human with implanted organs that allow her to resist disease and poisons as well as provide protection from radiation exposure.
Shepard’s body also contains advanced technology, including organic circuitry that allows her to interface with electronic equipment such as computers, weapons systems, and even transports; this tech was created by Cerberus, which explains why it looks like something from Tron: Legacy rather than Star Trek or Star Wars!
In Mass Effect 2, you play as Commander Shepard, who leads an elite team on missions against hostile aliens intent on destroying Earth’s colonies throughout the galaxy along with every other species they can find!
Kiryu Kazuma (Yakuza Series)
Kiryu Kazuma is a former Dojima Family member, the largest yakuza clan in Kamurocho. He was expelled from his family because he protected a member of the Omi Alliance during an internal conflict with them.
After being expelled, Kiryu spends time away from Kamurocho and returns several years later to track down those who framed him for murder.
As the game progresses, he becomes aware that his adoptive father’s death may not have been accidental and learns about an old organization known as The Dragon of Dojima—a secret society within Japan’s organized crime world—that helped shape Japan’s modern history through its influence over real-life historical events such as World War II and Hiroshima bombing.
Eventually, he finds out that Tojo Clan Chairman Sohei Dojima has been using The Dragon of Dojima for political purposes and plans on starting a war between rival clans in order to gain more power for himself by manipulating people like Makoto Makimura into doing what she thinks is right but actually works against her own interests;
thus Kiryu begins working with Kazama Family leader Saejima Tetsuya in order to stop him before things get worse than they already are while also protecting those important to them (such as Haruka).
Josh (Until Dawn)
You may remember Josh from the horror video game Until Dawn, in which he plays a large role. He is a ski team member and has just returned from spring break when one day, he takes a hike on the mountain with his friends.
Josh is a bit of an asshole—he thinks he’s better than everyone else because he’s popular and good-looking—but there’s also something charming about him:
You can tell that deep down; this guy has your back. He’s also pretty funny, though sometimes at his own expense. In short: he’s the stereotypical jock in every way, right down to his love for beer pong and all-you-can-eat buffets (which makes sense since Josh was modeled after Daren Kagasoff).
Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa Series)
Junko Enoshima is a character from the Danganronpa series, where she serves as the primary antagonist of the first game and its sequel.
In particular, she is the Ultimate Fashionista, an Ultimate student of Hope’s Peak Academy’s 78th Class, who murdered her own sister Mukuro Ikusaba to become a part of this class; later on, she killed Sayaka Maizono along with Yasuke Matsuda and Sakura Ogami in order to frame Makoto Naegi for their murder.
She also recruited Aoi Asahina over to her side after receiving information on how Chihiro Fujisaki had framed him for murdering Kyoko Kirigiri (who was actually alive).
During Chapter 5 of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Junko revealed herself as a mastermind behind Monokuma’s killing game after discovering that one student was still alive after finding out about it all being staged so they could commit suicide rather than be executed by Monokuma himself.
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong is a video game character created by Nintendo. He was originally conceived by Shigeru Miyamoto and made his first appearance in the arcade game Donkey Kong, released in 1981.
Kassandra (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey)
Kassandra is a Spartan, an oracle, and the half-sister of Alexios/Kassandra. She is descended from the Greek Gods and can use their powers to fight in battle. Her owl Icarus provides warnings when danger is near.
Mario
Mario is a fictional character and a great addition to our list of retro video game characters who appear in video games developed and published by the Japanese gaming company Nintendo.
Created by Shigeru Miyamoto, he was introduced in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong under the name “Jumpman”.
In that game, he has to rescue his girlfriend, Pauline, from the clutches of Donkey Kong. Since then, Mario has become one of Nintendo’s most recognizable characters.
Mario later appeared in several other games, such as Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and many others.
According to Nintendo’s website, over 200 million units have been sold since its release on October 10th, 1983, which makes it one of the best-selling franchises ever created!
Duck Hunt Dog
Duck Hunt Dog is a dog that appears in the Duck Hunt game. Nintendo created him, and he is one of the few characters that appear in more than one game. The dog has been modeled to look like an actual dog but has an unusually large head.
The dog’s name comes from its role as a companion to Duck Hunt in their many adventures together.
The dog’s personality is not known outside of his relationship with Duck Hunt; however, it’s fair to assume that he has a friendly disposition, given his constant presence next to the titular character(s).
Super Mario Brothers
Mario, the hero of the Super Mario Bros. series, is a plumber from Brooklyn who sets off on a quest to save Princess Peach from Bowser. This is a very good addition to our list of retro video game characters.
He’s accompanied by his younger brother Luigi, who is taller and thinner than Mario but wears green overalls like his brother; they make up two-thirds of what may be one of the most famous video game duos in history.
Mega Man
The Mega Man franchise is a series of video games based on the adventures of the eponymous character, Mega Man.
The original Mega Man game was released in 1987, and since then, there have been eight additional main games, several spin-offs, and several short-lived series.
In the original game, players take control of Dr. Light’s assistant: Rock (or “Mega” Man), who must use his special abilities to defeat eight robots that have attacked Dr. Light’s lab.
The popularity of this first title led to its sequel, Mega Man 2, which featured different bosses and some new abilities for the player character, such as an air dash or even sliding down hills while shooting in midair!
This sequel also introduced Dr. Wily – a scientist from another dimension who seeks world domination by creating armies of robots that he plans to unleash upon mankind!
The next two titles followed after this one but didn’t continue with any sort of storyline, alluding back to these events except for mentioning that Dr. Wily had been defeated once again after escaping prison (this happens more times than anyone would care to).
Mega Man Boss
Mega Man is a video game franchise developed and published by Capcom, beginning with the original Mega Man game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987.
The series has received a number of spin-off media, including six animated series and a variety of video games.
The first series was produced by Ruby-Spears Productions alongside Capcom and aired on ABC. This series ran from 1993 to 1994, with three seasons consisting of thirteen episodes each.
In 1996, the second season was released on VHS by HiT Entertainment under license from Saban Entertainment, but this time without any involvement from Capcom or Ruby-Spears, thus making it an unofficial sequel.
The third season was released in 1997. A third cartoon adaptation called MegaMan NT Warrior began airing on Kids’ W.B. on September 6th, 2004 but got canceled after 2 years due to low ratings.
The character has also been featured in other non-animated media such as comics by Valiant Comics and Malibu Comics line, novels based on D.C.’s Young Justice comic book series, action figures, trading cards, toys, and plush dolls.
Kirsten Geary (The Secret World)
Kirsten Geary is a character in The Secret World. She is a member of the Illuminati and a major antagonist in the game, seeking to overthrow its current leaders so she can rule the world as its sole dictator.
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider Reboot Series)
Lara Croft is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Square Enix video game series Tomb Raider. Lara is an English archaeologist who travels the world in search of ancient artifacts and civilizations. Along with her close friends at home, she has battled villains such as The Illuminati and Trinity.
Lester Crest (Grand Theft Auto 5)
Lester Crest is a supporting character in Grand Theft Auto V and the main character in Grand Theft Auto Online. He is an ex-military veteran and CEO of Merryweather Security Consulting.
In GTA V, Lester plays a major role in mission progression, providing you with special missions and vehicle requests. Another good addition to our list of retro video game characters.
Lily Bowen (Fallout: New Vegas)
Lily Bowen is a great addition to our list of retro video game characters; she is a medical doctor who lives in the Mojave Wasteland.
She’s great with a pistol and a good listener—so if you’re looking for someone to talk to, she’ll be there for you. Of course, being a companion in Fallout: New Vegas means that Lily can fight alongside you when necessary.
She can also cook food, repair weapons, and keep your health bar full of stimpaks so that no one has an excuse to fight without taking care of themselves first!
Lincoln Clay (Mafia 3)
Lincoln Clay is the protagonist and playable character of Mafia III and a very good addition to our list of retro video game characters. He is a Haitian-American Mafia member in the fictional city of New Bordeaux.
He was raised by his surrogate father, Sammy Robinson after his biological father disappeared and then died when Lincoln was young.
Lincoln Clay appears in the video game as well as its two expansions, where he becomes a war veteran who returns to New Bordeaux to exact revenge on Sal Marcano for killing his surrogate father Sammy Robinson, as well as killing all of his friends who were in their gang called “the Black Mob”.
Luca Cocchiola (Battlefield 1)
Luca Cocchiolo, also known as “Luca the Firestarter” and “The Mad Bomber,” is a character from the game Battlefield 1.
He is an Italian who served in the Royal Italian Army during World War I. After being discharged for his mental disability, he became a demolitions expert for the Royal Italian Air Force, where he spent most of his time blowing up bridges and train tracks to stop enemy forces from advancing into Italy. This character can not be left out of our list of retro video game characters.
During World War II, he joined up with the Co-Belligerent Forces—the military forces made up of former Axis soldiers who fought against fascism—and was responsible for over 300 bombings before being captured by Nazi forces in 1944.
The Nazis forced him to fight alongside them because they thought it would demoralize their enemies if they saw him fighting alongside them (spoiler alert: it did).
Mae Borowski (Night In The Woods)
Mae Borowski is a cat, but she’s also a college student who just happens to be a vegan. She’s very shy but also very intelligent and loyal. She’s good at video games and art, but if you want to talk to her about it over coffee or something, then that’s cool too! This is a good addition to our list of retro video game characters.
Marcus Fenix (Gears Of War 4 And Gears 5)
Marcus Fenix is the main character in the Gears of War series. He fought in the Pendulum Wars and the Locust War and is the father of J.D. Fenix. Marcus is also a playable character in both Gears 4 and 5. Another good addition to our list of retro video game characters.
Marcus Holloway (Watch Dogs 2)
Marcus Holloway is the main character of Watch Dogs 2. He is a hacker and vigilante who uses his hacking skills to expose corruption in the ctOS, a highly advanced supercomputer that controls all electronic devices in San Francisco.
Marcus’s father, Raymond “T-Bone” Kenney, was a member of DedSec (a group similar to Anonymous) before he died during an FBI raid on their headquarters when Marcus was still young.
Marcus joins DedSec after discovering that they have been gathering evidence of corporate crimes on ctOS for years but have been unable to reveal them because they lack proof linking the crimes directly back to their perpetrators.
He proves himself by helping them take down an arms dealer selling weapons illegally through hacked delivery drones at a local mall before joining their cause full time as one of their core members alongside Sitara Dhawan (who also makes her debut in this game), Wrench (the tech specialist), Josh Birk (the social media expert) and Horatio Carlino aka “Hacker Bling” – a former criminal who escaped prison after hacking into his own cell door so he could go back home and spend more time with his family).
Max And Chloe (Life Is Strange)
Max and Chloe are the main characters of Life are Strange. They share a number of similarities: both are 18 years old and in their first year at Blackwell Academy, and they’re both from different parts of the country (Max from Seattle, Washington, and Chloe from Arcadia Bay, Oregon).
But one big difference between these two girls is their personalities—Max is an introvert who loves photography, while Chloe is an extrovert who loves to party.
If you’ve played any video games or watched any movies or T.V. shows with teenage girls as protagonists (or even mild antagonists), then you know what happens when stereotypes get turned on their heads!
In this case, “The Bad Girl” archetype takes over after her friend Max reveals her powers to her in Episode 1: Chrysalis.
I hope this article has helped you to get a better understanding of retro video game characters. Retro games are some of my favorite ones, and I am still playing them today!
I really love how they bring back memories from my childhood because they are like snapshots in time.
