50 Popular Video Game Characters

Popular Video Game CharactersPin

Video games are full of popular video game characters that people have come to know and love.

From Samanosuke Akechi, who first appeared in Onimusha: Warlords, to the Big Daddy and Little Sister from the Bioshock series, video game characters are iconic for their design, personality, and coolness factor.

Here’s a list of some of our favorite popular video game characters!

Samanosuke Akechi

Samanosuke Akechi is a Japanese samurai and main character in the Onimusha series. He was first introduced in 2001’s Onimusha: Warlords as a playable character and appeared in Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams as an unlockable bonus character.

In Warlords, Samanosuke learns that Nobunaga Oda has been reincarnated by a demon named Genma and plans to take over Japan with him.

Samanosuke sets out on an epic journey to stop Nobunaga from taking over his homeland and eventually puts an end to his evil plans. This is first on our list of popular video game characters.

Sylvanas Windrunner

Sylvanas Windrunner is a fictional character in the Warcraft series. She was introduced in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne as one of its main protagonists, and she continued to play an important role in World of Warcraft.

As a former Ranger-General of Silvermoon, Sylvanas Windrunner led her people throughout the Second War against the Orcish Horde and later served as Warchief Thrall’s second-in-command during his expedition to Kalimdor (which introduced him to Jaina Proudmoore).

When Arthas Menethil came under attack by her forces during his campaign against Quel’Thalas, he slew her after she refused him entry into Silvermoon City.

She was resurrected by Arthas’ own necromantic powers following this battle—but rather than join his Scourge army willingly, Sylvanas instead fled with other undead individuals who had not been completely subjugated by Ner’zhul’s influence (or had joined it out of necessity). This is one of the popular video game characters.

Ratchet

Ratchet is a Lombax, a race of furry cat-like creatures from the planet Festoon. He’s the protagonist of the Ratchet & Clank video game series and was created by Insomniac Games.

Ratchet is voiced by David Kaye in his English voice acting debut, who also provides voices for other characters throughout the series.

He is modeled after and named after real-life actor Michael J. Fox, who voices himself in “A Crack in Time.”

He also appeared as a playable character in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. This is another good addition to our list of popular video game characters.

Doomguy

Doomguy is the main character of the Doom series and one of the popular video game characters. Doomguy is a space marine: he’s silent, wears green armor, and shoots stuff.

Doomguy was first introduced in 1993 in Doom.

He’s your avatar: you control him while playing through the game levels; you see what he sees on your computer monitor or T.V.T.V. screen; you hear his voice inside your head when someone talks to him, etc.

In other words, for those who’ve played it before (especially those who haven’t), Doomguy is essentially YOU!

Dorian Pavus

Dorian Pavus is a mage of the Tevinter Imperium. He is the son of Archon Thaler and the former lover of Iron Bull. He is a companion and can be romanced by male characters.

Dorian’s sexuality has been discussed within the fandom since his first appearance in Dragon Age: Inquisition, where he has a flirtatious relationship with both men (including one man named Roderick) and women (including Vivienne).

In an interview with Kotaku, writer David Gaider said that Dorian “is definitely not straight,” adding that “he doesn’t shut down any possibilities, but he also doesn’t immediately assume everyone else will follow his lead.” this is another good addition to our list of popular video game characters.

Dog (Fable 2)

The dog is a dog. He’s a big, brown, happy-looking mutt that you can find in Bowerstone Market. He tags along with you as your companion and helps you by attacking enemies or staying in place while you go fight others.

You can also train him to fetch items for you and such. The dog is one of the most popular characters in video games because people love dogs and want to be friends with them (especially if they’re cute).

Bella Goth

You might be wondering who Bella Goth is. She’s a character in the Fable series and part of one of the most powerful families in Albion. She belongs to the Bright Side of the Force, which means she has many magical abilities like telekinesis and mind control.

She was born into wealth, so she doesn’t have to worry about anything except whether or not her hair looks good enough for her next date with Bill Gates (it does).

Alduin

Alduin is the primary antagonist of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as well as its direct sequel and expansion packs.

Alduin is a dragon god and the leader of dragons who intends to destroy the world to create a new one in his image.

He was born from Akatosh (the god of time) and an Elder Scroll when men and elves ruled Tamriel, making him both an ancient creature and an extremely powerful being capable of altering history itself. This is one of the popular video game characters.

Steve (Minecraft)

Steve is a default skin in Minecraft, and he is the first character you see in-game and is used as a base for new players to create themselves.

Steve was created by Markus “Notch” Persson and Jens Bergensten, two of the main people behind Minecraft. Steve’s design can be traced back to a character from another game called Frogatto & Friends, which Notch made in 2002.

Chloe Price

Chloe Price is the main character of Life is Strange, a series of episodic video games. In the first game, she’s a student at Blackwell Academy who has an unhealthy relationship with her father, David, and an even more unhealthy obsession with Rachel Amber—the girl who went missing after Chloe’s friend Max had time-traveled back in time to save her life.

Chloe is a self-proclaimed punk who plays guitar and smokes cigarettes. She also loves music; she has posters and records of bands like The Clash and Radiohead hanging on her walls.

Cayde-6

Cayde-6 is a Hunter Vanguard, which is a class in Destiny. He’s voiced by Nathan Fillion and considered the most popular character in Destiny. He’s even been named “Player’s Choice” at the Golden Joystick Awards for three years running!

Cayde-6 is known for his light-hearted personality and humor, but he can also be serious when he needs to be.

When you’re playing him, you’ll feel like you’re having fun with a friend who just happens to be an A.I.A.I. construct with superhuman abilities and an itchy trigger finger—and maybe you are!

You’ll find yourself constantly making excuses not to go outside because Cayde has such great stories about all the things that happened while he was away from home base (Earth). A good addition to our list of popular video game characters.

Dogmeat

Dogmeat is a loyal German Shepherd dog and one of the popular video game characters who travel with you in the Commonwealth.

You can find him wandering near your home or at one of the settlements that you’ve built, waiting for you to give him some orders.

Dogmeat’s primary function is as a companion—if he’s not with you, he’ll be back at base camp, where he’ll often get into trouble by eating things he shouldn’t (or doing other things like resting).

He has a few tricks up his sleeve: if enemies are around and you order Dogmeat to attack them, he’ll rush out into battle and bite them in the face (or bark at them if they’re too far away).

Suppose any dangerous creatures are nearby when traveling through irradiated zones such as those found at nuclear power plants or underground caverns filled with molerats and mole rat kings (the latter of which sometimes burrowed into an area called “mole rat den”). In that case, Dogmeat will detect them long before players do!

Garrus Vakarian

Garrus Vakarian is a turian, a member of the galactic council, a Spectre, and one of the popular video game characters. He is also one of the most popular characters to appear in the Mass Effect series.

While he may be just as skilled with his sniper rifle as any other soldier, what makes Garrus so cool is his good sense of direction.

With his strong voice and friendly demeanor, it’s no wonder why he’s one of Shepard’s closest friends during their adventures together!

Captain Price

The Call of Duty series is one of history’s most popular video game franchises. It’s a first-person shooter that takes place during World War II and features a variety of playable characters, including Captain Price.

Captain Price is a member of the British Special Air Service (S.A.S.S.A.S.), also known as the Special Forces or “The Regiment.” He is a British soldier who fights alongside American soldiers in many battles during World War II and beyond.

The character was first introduced in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and has appeared in several other games since then. This is another good addition to our list of popular video game characters.

Isaac Clarke

I think Isaac Clarke is a character from the Dead Space series who is one of the best video game protagonists ever created.

He’s an engineer who can fix anything and everything with his trusty Plasma Cutter. He is also a survivor—his past has made him very resourceful and resilient.

He’s also a soldier, having been trained to fight monsters while on board the U.S.G.U.S.G. Ishimura (the ship where all of this happens).

But Isaac isn’t just any old soldier; he’s an action hero with no fear of taking down aliens or saving people from certain Doom—including himself!

Isaac is part of what makes these games so great because he acts as our proxy: we see everything through his eyes and get to experience every terrifying moment alongside him.

Finally, Isaac isn’t just another generic good guy; he’s more than that. He gets things done while being sympathetic toward others at all times, even though those around him may not deserve it!

So if you haven’t played any of these fantastic titles yet, then get on board because they’re definitely worth your time!

Tom Nook

Tom Nook is a tanuki (raccoon dog) who owns and runs Nook’s Homes store. He also serves as the owner of the player’s house in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

This is one of the popular video game characters. He is a shrewd businessman, knowing full well that his customers are often young and naive.

His tactics include offering mortgages on their homes, forcing them to pay him “rent” to live there, and selling items at inflated prices while giving little change in return.

He has been known to trick people into paying more than what an item is actually worth by making up fake stories about how rare it is or how they need it back; however, this can be avoided by being careful not to buy anything expensive without doing research first!

Niko Bellic

Niko Bellic is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto Online, one of the popular video game characters.

He is a Serbian war veteran who moved to America at a young age but spent time in Eastern Europe during his military years.

Niko Bellic has had a tumultuous life as he attempts to escape his past and find happiness in America.

This game lets you experience Niko’s story by allowing you to play through the events of GTA IV from his perspective as he works hard to take care of himself and his cousin Roman.

The latter lives with him in Bohan, an area on the eastern side of Liberty City (also known as New York City).

Kassandra

Kassandra is a playable character in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey video game. Kassandra is the daughter of Alexios and Thaletas and half-sister of Nikolaos.

She has a troubled past, having been abandoned as a baby by her parents because they didn’t like that she was female.

Kassandra is an incredibly skilled warrior who can use weapons like swords, spears, and bows. Her skills include moving undetected (something she learned from her father) and climbing walls quickly using her bare hands.

Parappa the Rappa

Parappa the Rapper is a video game about a dog who wants to be a rapper. The first game in the series was released for PlayStation in Japan in 1997 and North America in 1998, followed by sequels Parappa the Rapper 2 (PlayStation) and Um Jammer Lammy

(PlayStation) in 1999/2000, respectively. The 3D remake of Parappa, The Rapper, came out on PlayStation Portable on March 27th, 2008, while another PSP port was released on August 19th, 2008; Sony Computer Entertainment Europe published both.

Pyramid Head

Pyramid Head is a fictional character from the Silent Hill series of survival horror video games. He first appeared in Silent Hill as an antagonist and has since been featured in various other games and media related to the franchise.

This is one of the popular video game characters. Pyramid Head is a tall, red, and black pyramid-shaped creature with a large blade embedded in its left shoulder and a smaller blade in its right hand.

It wears no clothing aside from what appears to be an executioner’s mask (with one eye cut out) that covers most of its face except for the mouth area. It also wears triangular knee pads on its legs, which are shaped like pyramids themselves.

The name “Pyramid Head” was given by fans due to his appearance as well as his role as an executioner; specifically, because he carries around two types of weapons: one large knife which resembles that used during medieval executions by decapitation; another shorter one which acts more like daggers meant for stabbing victims through their hearts or stomachs.

Guybrush Threepwood

Guybrush Threepwood is a character from The Secret of Monkey Island. He is a pirate and the protagonist in the Monkey Island series of video games.

His name is a pun on “three-wish” because it sounds like “three wishes” when said aloud. Threepwood was created by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman, who also co-created Maniac Mansion.

The original game casts Guybrush as an aspiring swashbuckler who wants to become Pirate Grandmaster, but LeChuck thwarts his adventures.

In later installments, he becomes governor of Mêlée Island (a fictional location based on Key West) after defeating LeChuck once more.

Arthur Morgan

Arthur Morgan is a playable character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and is also one of the main characters in the game. He’s a Van der Linde gang member, and his role as Dutch van der Linde’s right-hand man makes him an outlaw.

Arthur Morgan was born on December 3rd, 1868. He grew up on a ranch with his family until government officials killed them because they didn’t have enough money to pay their taxes. Arthur then joined up with Dutch van der Linde at age 17 after becoming tired of being poor.

Max Payne

Max Payne is a third-person shooter video game series developed by Remedy Entertainment. The original game was released in 2001, and it was followed by a sequel titled Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which came out in 2003.

In the first game, players control Max as he searches for answers about his wife’s murder after she dies in their home during a home invasion robbery that also leaves several other people dead.

Sam Lake created max Payne in 2001. It was published by Gathering of Developers and released for P.C.P.C. on June 7th, 2001, later being ported to PlayStation 2 (2002), Xbox (2003), GameCube (2003), and iOS devices (2014).

Sam Fisher

Sam Fisher is a fictional character and the protagonist of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series of video games. He is a highly trained special operative of the National Security Agency (N.S.A.N.S.A.) and a founding member of Fourth Echelon, a clandestine special operations unit within the N.S.AN.S.A.

Actor Michael Ironside voices Fisher in all but one game: Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2004). In that game, his voice was provided by Keith David. The character has received positive critical reception from critics and gamers alike.

Fisher was born in 1956 to parents who were both Navy intelligence officers, though he spent most of his childhood traveling with his father on naval ships around Europe.

As an adult, he became an F.B.I.F.B.I. Special Agent for several years before being recruited into Third Echelon (which later became Fourth Echelon), an elite intelligence agency within the National Security Agency. By 2027—2029, Sam had been promoted to Director-at-Large (alongside Lambert).

Big Daddy and Little Sister

The big daddy and little sister of the BioShock series are two characters that have become famous because of their design. The big daddy is a heavily armored, hulking creature who protects his little sister from harm. She is a young girl with glowing eyes and red ribbons in her hair.

A popular fan theory suggests that Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum created them out of necessity: to extract Adam from sea slugs, she needed a living host—and what better hosts could there be but children?

The fact that these characters are so distinct has made them very popular among cosplayers and other game fans.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Ezio Auditore da Firenze is an Italian assassin from the Renaissance period. He is the primary protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed series.

The name “Ezio” means “honor.” Auditore’s last name comes from the Italian word for “watchtower.”

As a young man living at home with his family in Florence, Italy, Ezio lived a relatively normal life until he was orphaned at age 16 by Rodrigo Borgia’s plot to take over Florence by poisoning citizens.

After this tragic event, Ezio followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an Assassin himself and eventually joined forces with Niccolò Machiavelli and Leonardo da Vinci.

Ezio also became friends with Caterina Sforza during these years due to their mutual hatred toward Cesare Borgia.

In 1506, while they were still teenagers, they caught wind of Cesare’s plan to use mercenaries to gain control over Forlì; however, it was too late as Cesare had already taken over.

After defeating him and saving Caterina from imprisonment, Ezio took control of Forlì under orders from Machiavelli. Another good addition to our list of popular video game characters.

Leon S Kennedy

Leon S Kennedy is a character from the Resident Evil series of survival horror games. He was introduced in Resident Evil 2, where he became popular with fans. He’s one of the main protagonists from Resident Evil 4, where you play as him for most of it.

He’s also a former Raccoon City police officer who becomes a government agent and member of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.SS.T.A.R.S.)

Glados

There’s a character in the Portal games called Glados. She’s a computer program that runs Aperture Science, and the talented Ellen McLain voices her.

If you enjoy video gaming, you know it’s hard to find a voice actor who can give life to a non-human character while still keeping them relatable and interesting. But McLain manages both of those things with her portrayal of Glados!

The robotic quality of her voice is part of what makes it so iconic—and so easy to recognize when she pops up suddenly in other game series’ soundtracks (like Overwatch). It also helps us remember how much we love this character from Portal 2: The Video Game.

Commander Shepard

Shepard is a fictional character in BioWare’s Mass Effect series of science fiction role-playing video games. Primarily a soldier, Shepard is the protagonist of Mass Effect.

Commander Shepard’s name refers to how players can customize their appearance during gameplay (e.g., choosing hair color, eye color, and facial features).

Mark Meer voiced the character for Mass Effect, and Kaidan Alenko’s voice actor has been replaced with Raphael Sbarge since Mass Effect 2. In 2007, I.G.N.I.G.N. named Commander Shepard as one of its best-written characters in gaming, saying,

“Shepard is an incredibly deep character whose story arc weaves in many directions depending on what you do.” In 2012, GamesRadar ranked him as the sixth greatest game hero: “BioWare’s take on space operas has proven to be one of this console generation’s most beloved franchises thanks largely to its gripping story.”

Since then, he has appeared in several other games as well as comics and films based on these games; most recently, he starred in Rayman Origins and its sequel Rayman Legends before becoming a playable character again in Beyond Good & Evil 2

Gordon Freeman

Gordon Freeman is the silent protagonist of the Half-Life series. A theoretical physicist and a member of the Black Mesa Science Team, he was working on an experiment meant to teleport a sample of Xen crystals to another location using an anomalous materials teleporter when disaster struck:

that experiment goes wrong, and instead of teleporting the crystal sample through space, it merges with interdimensional space-time itself.

This results in a catastrophic dimensional rift that causes Xen creatures from another world known as “the border world” (also known as Xen) to enter our universe through teleportation portals.

Gordon Freeman is then forced to fight his way out of Black Mesa’s underground laboratories, where he also encounters fellow scientists and security guards fighting against these alien creatures while trying not to die himself or get infected by them at all costs before finally reaching an old military compound near ground zero where he must use any means necessary–including nuclear weapons–in order.

Cloud

Cloud Strife is a fictional character in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy video game series. He first appeared as the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII (1997), one of the best-selling role-playing games for personal computers, and has since been included in several other titles.

Cloud was designed by Tetsuya Nomura and illustrated by Yusuke Naora; his design has been called “iconic,” “breathtaking,” and “flamboyant,” featuring spiky blond hair, blue eyes, and an outfit that includes sunglasses, a cross-shaped scar located on his cheekbone underneath both eyes, body armor which can be equipped with attachments such as pauldrons, grieves.

Greaves and vambraces along with arm plates known as emblazons that go over each forearm while leaving his lower arms exposed, revealing red gloves beneath them along with black pants which are tucked into knee-high boots that also have metal plating attached to them.

Chun-Li

Chun-Li is a fictional character in the Street Fighter series. She is a Chinese martial artist and the daughter of former Street Fighter competitor and martial artist, Xiangfei.

Chun-Li’s father was murdered by M. Bison (Vega) for knowing about his secret drug trade in China. Chun-Li then swore revenge against Bison and became an Interpol agent in Hong Kong to track him down, but was unsuccessful until she encountered Guile during the events of Street Fighter II;

they were married after this event, though they would eventually divorce due to their conflicting views on justice and police work (she wanted justice while he wanted to order).

After Guile left her at home with their daughter Julia while he went on a mission to hunt down Charlie Nash (revealed later), Chun-Li decided not only to raise Julia herself but also continue her life as an active detective who works closely with Interpol.

Agent 47

Agent 47 is a genetically enhanced assassin working for an organization called The Agency. His number is 47, and his head has a barcode tattoo.

He’s a bald, cold-blooded killer who doesn’t speak but only grunts or shows emotion through his facial expressions (and sometimes eyes).

His weapons include two silver ballet pistols with laser sights and silencers, which are perfect for silent kills. This is one of the popular video game characters.

Agent 47 has featured many video games, including Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman Blood Money, and Hitman Absolution.

In each game, you take control of Agent 47 as he assassinates targets ranging from mobsters to government officials to celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence!

He later appears in its sequels, Among Thieves (2009), Golden Abyss (2011), and A Thief’s End (2016).

Nolan North voices Nathan “Nate” Drake in all four games of the series, who also voices other video game characters such as Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed II and III;

Desmond’s father, William Miles from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag; Deadpool from Marvel vs. Capcom 3; Red Dead Redemption II’s John Marston and, more recently, Spider-Man from Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man PS4.

Spyro

Spyro is an anthropomorphic purple dragon and the main character of the Spyro the Dragon video game series. He first appeared in the 1998 video game Spyro: Year of the Dragon, where he was introduced as a young adventurer who can breathe fire, charge through enemies with his horns, fly, and glide.

In addition to being able to curl into a ball when threatened or attacking enemies, he can also spin into them at high speeds for additional damage or gain propulsion in mid-air after jumping off walls or springs to reach higher areas more effectively than if he were simply jumping alone; this technique has been named “Tailspin.”

Where he starred alongside Luigi as one of two protagonists fighting against King Koopa and his army of monsters (including Bowser).

Since then, he has been featured as the title character and protagonist of every main entry to date; for example, being a playable character in Super Smash Bros., Smash Bros 64, Melee & Brawl; appearing on posters advertising various games related to him such as Super Mario 3D Land among others

If you’re a gamer, there’s a good chance that you have your favorite video game character. Maybe it’s Mario or Link from the Legend of Zelda series or Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.

No matter who your favorite is, chances are they’ve been around for many years and have gained quite a following in their own right.

It’s hard to imagine someone like Bowser as anything other than evil. Still, over time we’ve seen him evolve into more of an anti-hero type character who occasionally does good deeds for others (like saving Peach at times).

This evolution has come about through games like Super Mario Odyssey, where Bowser helps save Princess Peach after being tricked by Cappy (who looks like some kind of rabbit).
