Some time ago, I wrote that Transsion Holdings, the owner of the Tecno Mobile, Infinix Mobility, and Itel brands, was planning to launch devices with Pop-up cameras.
The company has released its first Pop Up Camera phone under the Tecno Camon series, Camon 15 Pro.
After launching in India, Tecno launched the device in Nigeria yesterday, April 2nd, 2020. Commenting on the device, Tecno Mobility noted that;
“The first SONY lens – 64MP, even 8x to zoom in the picture after taking a shot, every details are perfectly captured and shown. The clearness of the whole picture has upgraded by 68%. Click the shooting to capture beautiful view and unforgettable memories, you will find that every details are displayed purely and clearly. The four pixels were combined into a 1.6 micron megapixel to create high-quality night shots. The large 1/2” sensor captures more light at night, producing a photo that is brighter and with less noise. With brand new CAMON 15 Premier, capture more details both at daytime and night.”
The Tecno Camon 15 Premier is the big sibling of the Camon 15 Pro. It features a quad rear camera and other specifications.

Design and Display
The Camon 15 Premier has a 6.6-inch display panel, which is taller than the Camon 12 Pro’s 6.35-inch panel. Since last year, Tecno has tried to catch up with the rest of the smartphone world in trending designs.
This was evident when they finally introduced AMOLED, under-display fingerprint, and punch-hole cameras in the Phantom and Camon series.
The Camon 15 Premier will return to the IPS LCD display instead of the AMOLED used on the 12 Pro. This means that the under-display fingerprint is also absent.
The Selfie camera spot at the front panel is absent, too, as Tecno Mobility added a new feature to the Camon 15 Premier: the pop-up camera, which moved the Camera to the top.
The volume control and power button are to the right. The left side houses the SIM tray. The bottom of the phone contains a slim bezel for structural support, while the base houses the 3.5mm jack, dedicated microphone, USB port, and speaker.
The quad camera and LED flash are set up vertically at the back of the phone, close to the top-left position. Unlike other Tecno phones, there is space between the phone’s border and the camera. The fingerprint module is placed at the center, followed by the Camon brand and then the Tecno Brand.
The phone uses unspecified glass protection for the screen, and the body is plastic. The display is sharper than what we usually see on most Tecno phones.
The Camon 15 Premier screen resolution is 1080 x 2340 pixels, with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
Camera Specifications
The Camon 15 Premier has a quad 64MP rear main camera, a 5MP 115° ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP camera for a 2cm macro, and an Ultra-Night Lens supported by a DSP chip with an f/1.79 aperture. This is much more than the 16MP + 8MP + 2 MP triple setup on the Camon 12 Pro.
This time, CAMON 15 Premier takes the unprecedented step of starting TAIVOS™ (TECNO artificial intelligence vision optimization solution) to bring you truly ultra-clear night shots.
The Ultra Night Lens provides better edge correction and multi-frame noise reduction, producing more pure and clear night shots. It reduces overexposure to restore a true night scene in all directions, improving the image brightness and dynamic range simultaneously and shooting brighter photos in dark environments.
The Camon 15 Premier uses a motorized pop-up camera with a 32MP lens in the selfie department. The camera has a catalog of software improvements and filters designed to improve it.
Hardware Components and Memory
The Tecno Camon 15 Premier shares the same hardware specifications as the Camon 15 Pro and uses the MediaTek Helio P35 Octacore processor.
The SoC is clocked at 2.35GHz (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53). In the graphics processing department, there is the PowerVR GE8320 with speed clocked at 650MHz
For multitasking, there is 6GB of LDDPR4x RAM space for efficient operations and also 128GB of storage space for local storage (The Camon 12 Pro had 64GB of storage space).
Software and Battery Specifications
The Camon 15 Premier runs the Android 10 OS under the HiOS 6.0.1 skin. The HiOS may come with some beautiful add-ons like WhatsApp Call recorder, quick tab, bike and game mode, WhatsApp mode, etc. It also comes with a lot of bloatware and adverts that usually piss off users.
The phone has a 4000mAh battery, an upgrade from the 3500 mAh on the Camon 12 Pro. The battery should last over a day on heavy usage. The phone is expected to be sold for around N95,000.
