Because of the socialization aspect of it, millennials are finding that they are drawn more toward eSports than they are to iGaming. In eSports, they are working together in a multiplayer scenario to complete quests, win battles, or play video sports.

iGaming often pits competitors against one another, removing the socialization that is so craved by this generation.

Amount of Time Online

A major difference between the two is the amount of time spent online. Because of social media, eSports and iGaming, and messaging apps, millennials are likely to spend as much as 25% of their day accessing the Internet in some form or another.

This number excludes texting or phone calls, which likely adds another 10% to 15% usage for some. It is remarkable to think that some in this generation spend nearly half their day using their phone in some capacity or another.

Boomers are not as attached at the hip on their phone or other electronic device. While the percentage of use is increasing from 2% to around 10% now, they are nowhere near the level of usage of that of millennials. This is especially true in the use of social media, where as much as 65% of boomers have never used social media at all.

The more amount of time spent online has also led to a decreased emphasis on protecting personal privacy. Millennials are prone to share almost every aspect of their lives, where boomers are far more concerned about protecting their privacy.

It is easy to see why there is such a disparity between the two groups. Even when looking at a small sector of their daily lives, there is a significant difference in how they approach online games. This is a microcosm of their overall approach to life and provides a look to gain a better understanding of how the two generations differ.
